Systems on after 2!C - 2NT?
Don't respond 2NT. Stay out of opener's way. So, with a balanced 8-10 respond 2 and let the auction progress naturally.
Bob Okker's bidding problem: QT976543 J K6 AQ
If I were going to trot out the "If I were playing with a beginner" caveat, then I probably just blast 4. If you bid 4 opposite your golfer friend (aka beginner) you have every right to be left there. But the OP--posted to Bridgewinners--assumes a certain degree ...
4NT Natural
I would add after Stayman to this list. So . . . 1NT - 2 - 2any - 4NT
Bob Okker's bidding problem: QT976543 J K6 AQ
3 is absolutely forcing on every planet in this solar system. Using your own suggestion, "make a bid that is forcing and will be more likely to help partner," the 3 rebid is a standout. What better way to convey an 8 CARD SUIT than to rebid it?!
Open Or Not?
Read choice #1 . . . did not need to read further.
Interesting hand
(P) - 1NT - (2) - 3 (X) - 4 - (4) - All pass East worth a GF Stayman 3. Just. South doubles, making some noise. West, happy to find the fit bids game. North, considers the vulnerability, bids game.
Todd Holes's bidding problem: AQ J87654 J9 J74
Your statement implies that I was the 2 bidder. Nowhere was that stated. Someone else was the lunatic.
Meckstroth Elected to Hall of Fame
Which half?
Todd Holes's bidding problem: AQ J87654 J9 J74
Agreed. Neither would I. But here, in a moment of temporary (or possibly longer) insanity, you made a vulnerable 2-level overcall holding garbage.
Bob Okker's bidding problem: AK9 AJT86 Q4 A94
"but this is better." Is it? Without the " stoppers," and "2 good minor suit honors" you don't have 18-19. That's what gets you there.
