Book recommendation please (or other material)
HI Gary, Better Bidding in 15 Minutes, Expert Bidding in a Week, Howard Schenken, 1963. Larry Cohen also thinks a simple strong club system is a good place to start. How to Play Bridge With Your Spouse And Survive, Roselyn Teukolsky, 2002.
Test match between Bridge World Standard and Moscito?
Easy: http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/ Enter "swatting" in the forum search box Example return for Bds 18-24: https://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/763-swatting-the-moscitos-boards-18-24/page__p__4591__hl__swatting__fromsearch__1#entry4591 The Scientists (Moscito) won 62-19 (2003), Natural lost.
Club Closings
Unit 165: Knoxville TN Area Bridge Clubs closed for the rest of March. Oak Ridge TN Club closing 3/17-31. Now CDC recommends 8 weeks isolation?
Leading from Three Small
SOMETIMES MUD unless 2nd lowest is the 3 or 4 or sometimes 5.
An SMP question: when 1!C - 1 !S = 5+ !S, 8+ (unlimited)
Transfer Positives work well and allow acceptance of the transfer to be a Beta (Ask for Controls, Aces & Kings). ALthough some system geeks prefer AKQ points. Either design helps with slam decisions.
2!d Opening to Show a Balanced 18-19 HCP?
The Italian approach to 2: 3 = 5-4 Majors (3 asks for longer M), 3 = 4-4 Majors.
How much do you play?
Direct once a week (4 years) and play 4 times a week. Several years ago also taught once a week. Have lost 200 plays by directing. ACBL Sapphire LM.
Sandwich NT versus X
I play 1NT is 4 + 5 and double is (a) 4-4, or (b) 15 hcp or more.
Pairs tactics: IMPs v Matchpoints v 'the room'
Playing Matchpoints with one of my favorite partners, I would double for takeout after overcalling: three places to play, let partner decide. We have a lot of experience playing 4-3 fits. Looks like 8 tricks in 2.
Who should have taken the bull by its horns?
I voted South, if he rebids 1NT then North has an easy 4 bid.
