about me

Intermediate/Advanced NLM. Likes: long walks on the beach, endplays, opponents who double my slam just because they have two aces. Dislikes: mean people, phantom sacrifices, opening 2NT and getting passed out, Yarboroughs.

Kent Furst's bidding problem: --- AJxxx AJxx Txxx
I should add that 2 would be a signoff/minimum the way we play it.
Staring at Your Opponent to Observe Tells
I don't understand the point of this ancedote. Are you implying that a middling club player was intentionally hesistating rather than having to legimately think about her bid? Also, for the record, I wouldn't have answered your question either, regardless of the tone.
Better Notrump Leads Part 2
Got it -- thanks for the examples.
Better Notrump Leads Part 2
"For example, with AQTxx, leading the Ace gives you a much better chance of getting the suit going with the loss of only one trick." Can you explain this further? I'm not following at first glance.
Gerben Dirksen's bidding problem: J A8 A972 AKQJ54
3NT doesn't seem all that crazy. If partner has the expected 3 spades, she is odds on to have either the A, K, or Q. But yeah, this is why you bid 3 the first time around.
Introducing Bridge to New Players
The Learn To Play Bridge software is, by far, the best tool out there for newcomers. It's simple, engaging, and comprehensive. Oh yeah, and free.
50 Years of Masterpoints and Bridge
"...three exhausting hours of ulcer-producing, home-wrecking, ego-shattering tension." Plus ça change...
Something in the Water
Way to go Kranyaks! Laurie is a true competitor.
Video: Robot Duplicate Part 2
This series is really, really excellent. Looking forward to the next one. I would also love it if these were made available in a podcast format, if there's any chance of that.
2011 Hall Of Fame Ballot
Negro Leaguers do not have their own section of the baseball Hall of Fame. There is no distinction between Negro League players elected to the Hall of Fame and other players.
