about me

I nearly flunked out of college playing so much, won a few things, left my job to play professionally, and haven't looked back. Even my family has mostly come on board. I also do some work for BBO.

I like kibitzing and talking about hands with great players. When I do l, I always try to learn something.

Seeking tips for playing against BBO robots
Most important by far is to check the meanings of bids before making them. You might find the bid you wanted to make shows 25+ or 29+. You might not get to bid what you wanted, but at least you can choose among available options rather than accidentally showing 10 ...
Practice Finesse Works!
Funny but I don’t think it’s a practice finesse. It’s just a bad play. A practice finesse would be if they could have discarded the club from their hand but did this instead. Or am I crazy?
Brian Zhang's bidding problem: A8 KJ983 KJ76 T4
I think sometimes people under-estimate the chance of a slam on a hand like this. I am not saying it’s really likely, but it’s possible and partner will usually know when they have it. A perfect hand for partner would be something like Kxx Ax Axxxx Axx which ...
Claim Issue with ACBL on BBO
Steve, you are somehow mistaken about what happened. Maybe you misclicked without realizing it.
Claim Issue with ACBL on BBO
A claim on BBO is not accepted unless you both accept it anyway. So it can’t be done to have only one of you accept a claim. Because of that feature, I would simply make all acceptance of claims final on BBO. Since you both have to click the ...
Latest on the Daily ACBL "Support Your Clubs" Games on BBO
Does anyone know how / when / how often the club owners will be paid by the ACBL, or by BBO?
Tournament Cancellations
Everything until May 11 was not cancelled. It may end up being the case, but the ACBL is simply recommending it, but leaving the final decisions to the individual tournament organizers.
Oren Kriegel's bidding problem: 87 AKQ84 AQJ54 6
That hand would 100% bid 3NT over 3.
Oren Kriegel's bidding problem: 87 AKQ84 AQJ54 6
Dave, I know if you think about your example hand you will see the problem with it...
Oren Kriegel's bidding problem: 87 AKQ84 AQJ54 6
Definitely 4NT if it’s a club slam try without a spade control, which is a plausible and good agreement. Otherwise I just don’t see what I can do but bid 5.
