about me

Double Dummy is available for download or rental at https://vimeo.com/ondemand/doubledummy

As an 18 year old freshman at the University of Virginia, I learned how to play bridge for the first time. My aunt Kathleen, visiting for my grandfather's funeral, said the following as I explained the house rules for Hearts, "this is stupid we should be playing Bridge." Despite what I remember as an initial protest, Kathleen won out and I don't think I played Hearts again for at least 20 years.

The first seven years of my bridge playing career were spent sporadically enjoying a game when home with my parents. My older sister Melissa often filled out those games. Sometimes, a neighbor or couple would come join us. It still boggles the mind, that I lived in New York City, for slightly less than two years after graduating, and it never even occurred to me to look for a bridge game!

Second Thoughts about U31 Junior Event
Peg, There is something similar in amateur golf. Mid-Amateur events are open to non professionals over 25. Here is a summary of the logic from Wikipedia: The USGA specifically intended the Mid-Am as a championship for post-college golfers who were not pursuing golf as a career, as virtually all golfers ...

Chris, You are certainly entitled to your opinion. My friend Orman Kimbrough's son had a different experience. https://bridgewinners.com/article/view/highly-recommend-attending-a-screening-of-double-dummy/

Hi Judy, I feel the same way as you do with respect to your last comment, "bridge has blessed my life." That's why I made Double Dummy. And I too love UVA although sadly never played bridge while there. I did learn spades at UVA and it certainly groomed ...

To the Bridge Winners Community (Double Dummy Day Update)
Emile, A lot of time and money have gone into making this film what it is. I harbor greater ambitions for it than simply uploading it to Youtube and being done with it. I still hope that the bridge community might rally around the film thanks in part to my ...

Jason Feldman's bidding problem: Kxxx x 9xx AJT9x
I had a much weaker hand than this and passed showing values in my first hand playing in the trails and my boy, brand new GLM Adam Grossack sent the tray back with 7 spades! #shipit

Oren, you said, "Ron rebid 2♦, because he was concerned I would have expected more strength for 2♠, and the spade fit never came to light" Isn't Ron's thinking standard for this auction?
