The best use is probably "Wilkosz" if you are allowed to play it (which it isn't in most tournaments).
My first month away from the game
Simple question: Isn't it possible to play as a non-member in an ACBL club? I did that in 2010 in Vancouver (Thanks Kathryn, I enjoyed!). If you are just a guest you pay no membership dues and only support the club, not the ACBL.
Director call vs. fun
I find that unwillingness to understand the rules leads to the idea that director calls reduce the fun. If I am aware that partner hesitated and I know that this gives me some obligations, I will not be surprised that the opponents call the director whatever I do, since they ...
Failure to announce
I don't see how it makes a difference. This is a typical case where the opponents claim damage but there really isn't any. If 1 is systemically three cards it can still be three cards, not unlikely when we rate to have nine . Bidding 3 ...
Need advice on transfer over X of 1M
Agree mostly with Craig. You would accept the transfer with any hand that would pass a weak two bid in the transfer suit. If responder breaks out, this shows the other hand types. But of course note what Kit has written if you have QJT987 you want to play in ...
For the Anything Goes File -- Multi-1NT???
At one time we used 1NT as either weak two in or 15-17. This worked quite well. Combining the weak NT with another option strikes me as a bad idea, though. Also playing 1NT showing no balanced hand puts too much pressure somewhere else.
Yellow Systems - A Dire Discovery
Perhaps those were the same people trying to ban "destructive" methods and relay "systems" in the US. Without defining what they are but they know it when they see it.
Questions for people who play 12-14 1NT
I have never understood this argument. Playing strong NT it is the same problem. The "standard" solution seems to be 1NT rebid is 12-14 and with 15-17 invent a 3-card suit. For me, in both cases the answer is to open 1NT with 5332.
Questions for people who play 12-14 1NT
For us 1m 1N 2N shows 17-18 and 3N shows 19-20. Note that 1N must have a lower maximum than playing strong NT. We play 1m - 2m is inverted starting with a decent 9-count which is GF opposite 15-17. Playing strong NT, 1m 1N can be any hand with no ...
Do You Count Your Cards?
The behavior which irks me is people picking up 5-7 cards, sort them, study them, pick up another card, sort it, study it, pick up another card, sort it, study it, etc. until 13. This takes a VERY long.
