about me

Ex-junior (how long can I call myself that..?) I now play mostly in and around Oxford, occasionally national events. I've got a little boy so took a break but am starting to play more again.

I'm a software engineer, recently moved out of finance to focus on search/ai/machine learning.

The problems of over-alerting
Do you prefer the Oz way, where cue bids are self alerting? Seems sensible to me (but did get me in a mess first time it came up as I didn't know the rule)
Emily Middleton's bidding problem: QJxxx x ATx Kxxx
Perhaps you wouldn't. This is what happened at the table.

Though I have the vulnerability wrong, will edit

Yes! Not bad for someone that hasn't bid yet
Seven Heaven
7 gold medals from European championships, 3 from world Olympiads and two venice cups? I would call that more than 'competent'. None of Usa vs Bulgaria in the open, or China vs Poland in the other VC found the killing lead either. Let's congratulate the Swedish north!
BB QF USA1 vs. BULGARIA Session 2
According to the Vugraph commentators, on board 26 4 was kickback, then 4 showed one keycard and 4NT enquired about the Q. Not sure about 5/6
BB QF USA2 vs. SWEDEN Round 1
Someone said on Vugraph that the 6 IMPs was a fine for slow play not carry-over?
BBR13: Italy vs. USA2
Hi Adam, you've repeated board 5 instead of board 6 :-)

Sarah also won the Alex Salisbury award for her work promoting junior bridge - well done all thoroughly deserved :-)
English tournament entries
For what it's worth I'd chip my tenner in, though that won't make much of a dent!
