about me

I started playing bridge in 1976 when I went to Liverpool University.  I played tournament bridge until 1986, with the highlight being on the British team that came second in the European Junior Championships in 1982, partnering Richard Winter. Frequent BW contributor Barry Rigal was also on the team.

From 1986 until semi-retirement in 2010 I played virtually no bridge.  By now I had moved to the US. I started playing again at clubs in Atlanta until moving to Savannah in 2017. I am currently Treasurer of the member-owned Savannah Duplicate Bridge Club.

I have seen players partnering robots. Can you replace a sitout pair with a robot pair to avoid a half table (then possibly replace with human substitutes later)?
Andy Eastwood's bidding problem: AJ972 KT854 J83 ---
Thanks for the comments. The person with the hand chose 4, which became the final contract. The 1NT opener had 10xx AQJxx AK Qxx, so the presence of the spade intermediates made slam good.

No agreement on 4D. I would take it as showing a maximum and diamond control, probably denying club control, in case responder has slam interest.

I didn’t play this hand. It was played by my two most frequent partners (Marla and Perry). Having got in the middle of their difference of opinion, my one conclusion is that 1NT - 3S showing a major 2-suiter is a great way to preempt yourselves.
How do you play this bidding sequence.
If the opening bid had been 1, would the sequence 1 - 1; 2 - 2NT; 3 - 3 be to play (or at least showing an invitational hand with 4 and 4)?

We do have a sanction and a list of club members. I am asking on behalf of Savannah Duplicate Bridge Club.

How do you get to be a virtual club? Is there some way to apply?
