about me

I began playing bridge in the Los Angeles area in 1995. I attended my first regional and joined the ACBL in the spring of 1996. I played a lot on OKbridge. I met my late husband, Charley James, in 1998 at the Reno Regional and we began playing together a few weeks later. We played throughout 1999 and won about 300 points together that year.

We built a nice system and played it for over 18 years. 12-14NT, 2/1, lots of fun gadgets. Some that probably no one else plays or would want to play, but they fit in well with the whole package. I'm starting to write it up as we never kept much in the way of notes.

In the last few months I have played with about 24 new partners. It's very strange after playing with one partner and one system for so long.

Favorite Bridge Memory
Getting 90/90 on a board the second day of the Blue Ribbon Pairs. I passed in first chair with a lousy hand with six bad spades. 1H - 1S - 5H back to me. When asked, my LHO said 5H was an invitation to 6H if opener had a spade control. So I bid 6S as an advance sacrifice against their 6H. LHO doubled and partner played it there. LHO failed to cash a heart at trick 2, ostensibly because his partner had made the wrong sort of lead (3rd/low instead of 3rd/fifth). On the club switch my partner calmly won, pulled trump, and claimed, making 6H for +1660.

Good times!
Spingold Scoreboard
It's basically unusable on a smartphone or moderately sized tablet. Thank you Chris for bringing that up.
Hendrik Sharples's bidding problem: JT8652 9 --- QT8754
Pass and see what happens.
Spring NABC Schedule
I agree. I have enjoyed mixed events because my regular partner is my husband so we're eligible for open or mixed events, but it seems obvious to me that open events should take precedence. What is the point of a mixed event? There's nothing to prevent mixed pairs ...
Jeff Ford's bidding problem: T5 JT9 J752 K854
But Charley would bid 2C.
Another Appeal Probable in Spingold
I agree. We might even take it a step further and pre-print pads with a structure that helps identify when a sequence of bids provides specific information. For example: my partner and I play that 1S - 2N! shows either a 3-card limit raise with unspecified shortness or a 3-card balanced ...
Opening 5-5 in the Blacks
What do you open with five spades and seven clubs?
Opening 5-5 in the Blacks
We open 1 with weak hands and 1 with normal opening strength or better.
