As all of you are aware the Covid-19 virus has created turmoil in our country. As a bridge community, the ACBL has acted swiftly to provide guidance and has taken pre-emptive measures to protect all our players by cancelling the NABC in Columbus last month and recommending cessation of “organized” games involving face to face interaction. It is worthy to note that the ACBL in concert with BBO and numerous clubs have developed a methodology that allows you to continue to play our great game in the safety of your home with enhancements to the standard BBO offerings.

Your District and Units have also taken pre-emptive measures to ensure your health and safety by cancelling a number of events and I thought this would be a good time to provide a summary of where we stand so that you are well informed. To the best of my knowledge, this is the current status of cancelled tournaments (with some information relative to action(s) you may need to take to prevent unnecessary charges).

A) All April Tournaments

B) Spartanburg sectional and GNT Finals

C) Highland Sectional

D) Columbia Sectional and GNT Finals: please be sure to call the hotel and cancel any reservations you may have had. If you have any problems, please contact Lee Webb—email: xxx

E) Savannah Sectional

F) Raleigh Regional---for cancellation contact Group Room Coordinator, Corey Rowe—email: xxx or phone: xxx . If you have additional concerns please contact Barbara Hudson, Co-Chair—email: xxx or phone: xxx

G) Greensboro Sectional in June

H) Knoxville NLM Sectional June

I) Flat Rock Sectional and NLM Regional in June

As of this moment, the only tournaments in our district that have not been cancelled are: Oak Ridge and Atlanta sectionals in May and the Pinehurst sectional in June

GNT FINALS: Information on District GNT finals will be provided separately when the details have been worked out.

It is very important to note that we all owe the Tournament Chairs a very large debt of gratitude for the time and effort they put forth to plan these tournaments on our behalf. Please don’t hesitate to thank them for everything they have done.

Lastly and most important, our top priority will always be the health and safety of you, our players. We hope you are practicing “social distancing” while taking advantage of “virtual” and other online games.

Pete Misslin,

D7 President
