Good call regarding the splinter, Even though i can very well see myself bid 4 in respond with, say:

AXXX
QXXX
KQX
QJ

while 6 seem to be a reasonable spot.

that's correct, i've felt the tempo of play from East suggest that 's are 4-2, howevera good player would surely play K in tempo from the K9 remaining.

correct, I tried to fix it but for some reasons it won't let me fix the headliner. My Appologies for Andrey, of course.

thanks all,

Turns out that partner had

QJT9XX
QX
XX
XXX

6 is 5 off, a good sacriice while 6 making.

The story of the hand is more complicated though.

opener had:

A9X
AKXX
AQXX
XX

and his partner had:

void
JXX
KJXXXX
KQXX

2 was explained by him as “transfer to , and 2NT as ”good hand with fit". after the bidding went all the way to 6 i doubled, lead-directing to , expecting to find partner with a stiff so he can receive his ruff and even if he has a void, i probably look at 2 tricks anyway. Of course it was not to be and 6 made for a 0%.

The TD let the score stand but took the X off. W made the self-serving argument that his 2S bid was indeed a club transfer and he wanted to show the diamond suit himself and be a declarer.

Any thoughts?

maybe, or perhaps S thought 3S would be helpful for EW to evaluate their hands and that if he won't reveal the situaion then perhaps EW would settle for 3NT for MP reasons…

I probably would've, Had i knew that X would be such an unanimous choice. I'm not used to be in such a majority… :)

TBH i thought many would bid 5/, as most of the field played in 5, going down one. Many others played in 4 and made the contract so -950 was worth 15 IMP's for our opps.

so now, after you all unanimously paid -950 just like me, let's make it an ATB problem.

Partner's hand:
XXX
QTXX
XXXX
XX

West's:
AQJ
XXX
X
AQT9XX

East's:
XXXXX
VOID
XXXX
KJXX

Let's put aside EW's bidding for a moment ( no support X, the 3 by East, etc ) and focus on NS's auction instead.
Do you think N should pull to 5?

I've changed the sequence now,
Sorry for the 5 persons before that voted for “X” which of course isn't possible now.

I wonder how does this Algorithm thing works as far as sacrifices are concern. Perhaps people who play Individual games can enlight me, because i can't remember facing a sequence in which the GIB made a sacrifice bid.

Q lead at the table, i went down. Guess i should've figure it out and perhaps i would've, had i played the hand against an opponents i know to make a sound weak-jump overcalls rather than some pickup opps on BBO.

I'm more interested about the bidding though, especially if 3 is anyone's bid. Sure looks like it from the answers i see here.

Their “job”, as i see it, is to give an information regarding the “whole” match, not only one half of it.

When those kind of situations comes up, i DO discuss the other table's contract and play as well, but only if the same board is played by both rooms.

At the same time i use David Burn's practice when the score changes.

To Be honest, i've never received any complain from the Kibitzers on VUgraph by doing so. I think it's a good service that a commentator should be able to provide for the audience.

Anyhow, partner's hand was:

XXX
X
AKX
AKQXXX

the King of Spade was onside, so 12 tricks were available in Club, while 4S and 3NT were making, too, since the 3H bidder hold :

T9XX
AKJTXXX
X
X

and decided to bid “by the book” and not opening a pre-emptive with 4 cards in the other major ( I guess it worth a poll of it's own… isn't it? ).

at the table partner bids 3S and i bided 4S, making 11 tricks.

which essentially means opp overcalled 3H with XXXXXX since i look at the Q of heart in my hand…
Not likely IMO, but if that makes sense to you then pass is logical.

for sure not a penalty which can hardly makes sense anyway. it's a take-out oriented bid.

we agreed on playing support X through 2♥, otherwise no particular agreement. It's a new partnership.

Fantastic match indeed, even if there were times it got a little bit more tense, like here, 2H 48m into this video:

Anyone can work out what Brogeland said to Madala at 3:26:23 after he went down in 4S?
