Pard could have 's and be trying to hit me, which he has. Returning a high one would tell him he is wrong.

North's double is hard to understand, but how can South possibly want to defend with this hand, even though a 2/1 2 hearts was pushing things?

3 small is a definite possibility. Honor doubleton or worse less likely. With that, surely a better call is available.

True about 5, but do you really want to be there opposite weak hearts in the South?

Could there be hands where 3 is 4th suit forcing, looking for NT?

If it matters, I asked Marty this one time and he said absolutely not. GF hands should use 2NT. I asked how he decided to bid 2NT or Bergen and he said they have no overlapping hands. I used to play the stronger raise was limit+.

I agree. With this treatment my call (2 or 2) will depend on whether I think my hand should be led up to or thru.

Clearly no agreement means no agreement. I cannot see how it could possibly be anything but either a splinter or exclusion Blackwood, but if asked would say not discussed.

Some of it has to do with how often do they make “abnormal” bids or plays that seem to work out. Lucky leads that happen to hit partner or psych's that are picked up too often.

Peg, you are right, as usual. Matter of fact, in looking at it I wonder why pard didn't open 1NT. Weak doubleton? Of course it they had there is virtually no way we could find a slam. This way gave us a little shot.

Maybe I could have solved all this by opening 1 in first seat. Certainly not the worst call in the world.

It was partially a question of should you cue bid. Sure you have maybe a queen better than promised but is that enough to look further? May depend on just how good “non-minimum” is. In actuality, it was A10xxx, 92, Axx, AKx.

Hopefully he would bid 6NT. 7 makes because hearts are 3-3 and the club hook works, either of which disposes of your 3rd spade.

Hard to say what partner would do next, since his diamonds are so bad. I will end the suspense and tell you he was xxxx, AKQx, 10xx, AJ.

Buddy, my partner was fairly inexperienced and likes a jump in a minor to be forcing. I only recently talked him into playing major suit jumps as limit.

I have followed a player that does this and the bidding box is invariably screwed up because he replaced the card in the wrong spot.
