Paul, as to my situation shown above, does a member have to be currently paid-up with their dues/service fees to be listed? If not, why was my wife not listed when I reported it and followed up with a phone call?

Peg, my situation came up back in 2016 when my wife passed away. She was a life master and I promptly notified the ACBL then called to confirm that they got it. I was told yes, but her notice never appeared. She was in a nursing home suffering from Alzheimer's for 4-5 years and I stopped paying her annual service fee, since she would never play again. Apparently to get listed you have to be a paid-up member, though nobody ever told me this. I wrote my District Director about it and never heard anything from him either. If this is, indeed the ACBL's policy they should say so. I thought being a LIFE master meant that you were one for life and deserve recognition when you pass away.

When I play Flannery I hate for 1 to promise 5. I would rather bid naturally (even though we probably do not have a spade fit) than misrepresent my distribution with 1NT or something else that does not describe my hand.

I think the fact that the TD's services might be missed should not be taken into account. IF they are the ONLY TD, then a suspension at another date should be considered.

3 is within a hairs breath of making. Too close to risk a double. (Give South the jack of clubs).

Partner grossly underbid their hand at the first call and, after that, after the second. Way too good to only bid 3.

It does not affect me, but this seems to be the sort of thing that should have been worked out months ago!!!

Not discussed, but if so, she has one side king.

Peg, not so weird and a great idea. I will send you a message with what turned out to be best.

I am sure that video recordings are the only way to know what exactly happened and by whom, but chess clocks are a good start and probably a lot cheaper that recording the activity at every table.

I like and prefer Brozel and like Bill, cannot believe it was not on the list ahead of some systems I have never heard of.

I agree with James above. A lot of today's LM's would still be working on their first 100 back in the 70's and 80's. Now you can fairly easily become a life master and never actually have to play against one.

Agree totally. With stratified, flighted and 10-15 brackets of KO's now that is what they are doing. What we need is a marketplace where we can sell our extras. I'll let some of mine go for far less than the transportation, lodging, meals and entry fees you are now paying. Here's an idea - send me your player number and I will use it and you can pay me for what I win for you!!

I'm with Debbie. I have followed a picker before and maybe half the time they replaced the card in the wrong spot and I had to fix my box before starting.

4 by N/S is a silly contract and if they got there they deserve -50.

Interesting concept - bid what you have. I'm surprised this has not come up before!!!

I have never understood doing it with 4-4. What possibly makes you think either of your suits is the place to be?

Roughly 14 for 2 and 20 for 3. A good director once told me that when about 3/4 of the field is finished call the round regardless of time. Novice games, maybe a bit longer.
