Forcing of course, in stead of inviting we now bid game and make it thanks to the information anout opps hands. PLUS X is business! Unfortunately a number of club members have learned their lesson.

Horrible N hand, value of 11-, not an opening bid. Horrible 2N-rebid without a -stopper. 6N understandable, but 6 or 7 might be better. Take it slow, probably 4 is best.

How about 1 forcing, 2 and 3 non-forcing?

Business! I've played WNT with a runout system most of my life, but XX was always for business and often led to juicy penalties. I think runout makes sense even with SNT, but I do not play that in my regular partnership and with a pick-up there are issues that are more important.

I like that, what are your continuations? It should be possible to find a possible 4M, 3N or 5m but you should also be able to stop in 4m.

With 0 hcp it is a preempt, with an ace and a king it is a limit raise.

Ah, but now responder can bid 3/ as a natural slam try, 3with a 5crd and 3N as a wish to play 3N but without a -stopper, 3 is an artificial slam try in . Opener need not bid 2N of course, but the higher the bid, the more precise the information should be. 3N: No -fit, probably a stiff, a good -stopper, not a good hand for slam.

Why has pard bid 2? I can see 3 reasons: a) looking for a 5-3-fit, b) missing -stopper or c) interested in slam, could be , or . If you consider only a) and b) it would be okay to bid 3N with -stopper and no -fit. But if you also consider c) wouldn't you want to have more information?

Wouldn't you simply bid 1-1; 2N with that type of hand?

We play “New Stuff” from Jeff's treaty. Unfortunately “New Stuff” is a very short chapter.

No Roman Jump Overcalls for my partner ;-( In Germany we cannot play NTO because a 1N-overcall must either be natural or show an anchor suit of at least 4. We play Baron promising 4OM over 1M and Raptor over 1m.

It means whatever you agree to, but it should give a very clear picture of your hand.

That is our current agreement. Doubler is supposed to bid 3 with a minimum in which case he always has at least a doubleton. This is somewhat comparable to 1N-(2Y)-2N. The difference is of course if doubler has more then a minimum and bids higher then 3Y. Now there is no way to ask for a stopper and 2N-bidder need not have a stopper as doublers bid is forcing.

I am well aware that my 4 is a minority vote. Our agreement is that it explicitly shows a void, minimum in hcp, good and support. In this special sequence we do not splinter with a stiff, because 3N still could be the best contract (not in this case of course) and would simply bid 3.

1 (or X on their 1) 3-suited with both M, 1 2-suited with both M (pard should bid as high as possible). 1 4-5!m or 1-suited, 1N same with , 2m natural, 2M 5M-4m, 2N both m's.

I play (in a Polish Club variant) 2S is a splinter raise to 3, 2N is either a -splinter or a 3-bid with 3crd (3 asks, 3 p/c).

The Romex I know (and played) uses CONFI to ask for CONtrols and search for a 4-4-FIt with sufficient controls for slam (Super-CONFI for grand slam).
