I think your suggestion of playing this as a weak nt is unplayable for the reasons suggested by Frances. Good argument for negative free bids

Nigel is right. It is not the bid itself, it is the memory that partner will bid on this tripe with 3 rags in opener's suit that is damaging. If you don't want to play with this partner again, then bid.

The only thing I can say about the 4S bid is that North must have thought N-S were playing transfers after an opponent's double.
