Shawn, I think you are ‘fitting’ your premise based on the conclusion. And the Slawinsky clarifying ‘signal’ had nothing to do with their bidding.

I can say the same thing about 4 card majors (I can signal a 4 bagger - please dont compete).

Its really a shame that pairs that havent played it or invested much time to find out how effective the system is have no problem disparaging it.

Its also unfortunate that the methods are associated with the biggest cheating scandal in the history of the game. Im confident the cheating pairs would have cheated regardless of methods.

The tri-annual tradition continues!

At 6:00 tonight, under live.acbl.com, the first session of the NAP was posted. Now, the Memphis NABC has been taken down and the only NABC posted is the Online Tourney results.

And the flipside of this is LHO takes two seconds to play small. Because a defender has nothing to think about, I hope you arent suggesting because they didnt take 1/2 a second that this is coffeehousing?

Edited arent for are.

I think you should call the director, actually.

Michael, Im not implying that at all.

My point if you are attempting to ‘observe’ something and you get a false impression, how can this be considered coffeehousing?

Acting is too strong a word by me - now that would be coffeehousing.

Odd poll choices.

Say spades are trump and the auction is

…4N

5..5

Theres very little difference between:

5 shows the Queen and no King
5 denying the Queen
5 showing the Queen and the K
5 showing the Queen and a specific King based on known suit length.

You just have to agree. Ive played all of these methods. The 3rd is standard. The 2nd is what I prefer.

Similarly:

……..(H)………..(w)
1…..1…. x…. 4
4 ….pass(1).pass..5

down 1 with 4 also down 1.

(1) slow pass

After the round, Wife says to husband, “you don't have enough for a slow pass”.

Growing rather weary of these “my opponents did something weird and got a good result and therefore should be penalized” threads.

Growing extremely weary of these “asking a question and really not caring about the answers unless they agree with my POV” threads.

This happens at all levels and I can tell you it really isn't intentional.

You play a card looking for a tell. They play a card not trying to give anything away.

If you ever read Caro on Poker Tells:

https://www.amazon.com/Caros-Book-Poker-Tells-Psychology/dp/1580420826

and you should, remember, “weakness means strength and strength means weakness”.

He goes into a long discussion about how people are born into a society where all of our daily routine is pretty much programmed - school, job, relationships, etc., but poker is an area where they can act outside of norms, which includes pretending to have things we do not and v.v..

By the way, if you are looking for a tell, and you get an acting job, do you really think it's coffeehousing?

For me, 1) it's a pretty strong word, and 2) if you are looking for clues based on mannerisms and you are misled, then that is on you.

But theres a big difference in strength between a 3N call across from a round 2 suiter and a 19 point balanced hand.
