I do not play 2/1 GF. I am comfortable bidding 2, then 3.

I personally have no objection iF you overcall on a 3-Card suit. Legality? I don’t know. But on the first hand I would pass. On the second I would overcall 1NT.

Your partners have bid like East at times? That nothing. I bid like East all the time.

I do not play the double as penalty either. Shows too much to let them play 3 undoubted. I am content with whatever East does.

Especially at matchpoints, I think it is clear for West to double when 3 gets around to him. Do you really think you will get a good board if 3 is making? This is the reason people make horrible bids like 2, they don’t get doubled.

Playing with a longtime partner who will forever be an Intermediate. I made lead, opponents asked about our leads. Partner said “Upside Down”

2/1 GF natural and simple is self contradictory. (Not a big fan of 2/1 GF if it was not already obvious)

Most players at the club level take little time over their discards because they do not think about what there discards mean. Serious players will often pause to decide which discard to give.

2 neither confirms nor denies five spades. It is legal to play in a 4-3 fit. If East takes a call over 3, I would, it should surely be 3. Richard Fleet has expressed more eloquently than I could my basic feelings on this matter.

Not a 3 opening for me. Would bid 4.

Richard, I would not object to 3 at IMPS. At matchpoints. I’ll go low. Especially since they always bid spades with four. Personally,I would rebid 1NT with 4-3-4-2 or 4-2-4-3 unless concentrated values in spades and diamonds)

I gave most of the blame to West. However, I would not be very critical of the auction. Especially if it were matchpoints.

Indeed, if I share this with my friends sitting EW, I will first have to edit the comments. The player sitting East readily admits that her bidding is weak. But she is an excellent card player.

I think I would pass 3, but I’ve seen a lot worse bids than 3. Having bid, I would raise 3 to 4, but, once again, I’ve seen worse calls than Pass.

I don’t think 3 is forcing.
