I am comfortable bidding 2.

I was the Director. I did not give a PP and I did not think it was even close to a PP. The East hand bid 4. Personally, I would have doubled. I gave EW an A-. I reluctantly did not post this as a poll because I used the results in real time. I did have a lengthy discussion with the East player the next day and explained the reason for the A-. I also asked if there was indeed a long hesitation by West. East said “Extremely long.” Thanks for all the comments and analysis. FWIW, I think West had a clear-cut 4 bid.

I am pretty sure that I would double at matchpoints. After the long hesitation, I would pass. Agree totally with Kit that -140 rates to be a bad score. But after the long hesitation, I pass even though I think it is not the percentage call.

Thanks. I am in middle of running the game in which it occurred. Thought I would get some opinions.

Yes, the game is matchpoints. Sorry I forgot to include that. As to how how high 2 is forcing, I have no idea. I expect the perpetrators don’t even know. Intermediates.

I chose 2 always, but I agree with Dominic and Richard.

Depends on what jurisdiction you are playing in. Not alertable in ACBL. Presently. Supposedly they are revising the process. Currently hopelessly convoluted and inconsistent. Having said that, I personally would alert.

I guess 5 was a practice bid.

I almost never invite with an 8 count, but this is not an 8 count.

I don’t think there was any implication that he was stopping in 3 on this hand.

I did zone out once, at least, and bid 2 to show no 4card major. Right, I had a 5card major.

I would only allow 7 to stand if it goes down.
