Alvin, you are a valuable resource being both in ACBL and WBF governance. I, for one, appreciate your willingness to interact with this audience. Can you provide us with more specificity? The readership is mighty p**sed at the WBF (and other) leadership just now.

Hi Avon. On 115, the link given shows 1 - 3 -4. Were you intending a different board or does the bidding appear differently in another source?

I have a take on this which parallels baseball. For many years it was considered unsportsmanlike by a leading team to steal or bunt, once up by some vaguely understood number of runs with some vaguely understood number of innings to play. Violating this unwritten rule often led to retaliation in the form of fistfights, a scrum at second base following a steal, or a beanball from the trailing side's pitcher.

Then the steroid era began and comebacks of large numbers of runs became not uncommon. The mindset seemed to have ended.

I personally detest the idea that offense should be taken from hard play; however obviously not everyone agrees and I suspect that your opponent has this quaint viewpoint. It seems unlikely that a conversation will change this.

Concerning the Dear Leader- from the final Bulletin from Orlando:

“Elisabeth van Ettinger, speaking also on behalf of Jan van
Cleeff, wished to know developments in the matter of
Fantoni-Nunes. Rona answered that they had been
declared innocent by the CAS, and so their sanctions have
come to an end.”

Avon has had my admiration for a long time. I'd also like to extend deepest thanks to Bob Hamman for stepping up and making this book happen when other publishers were gun shy.

Chennai, September 2015. Zia wanted to address a pre-tournament chaotic press conference, I believe. Would someone who was in attendance please clarify for Mr. Lewis? My info is second-hand.

…which returns us to the glaring nature of Rona's leadership… does everyone recall when he tried to shut Zia up?

Michael, I appreciate your probity. At the same time it should be noted that the introduction of screens demarcated a striking change in the use of takeout doubles, without any announced change in general methods.

Here a counter-suggestion that may work in lieu of finding contemporaries with experience playing against the foreign player. Design an online par quiz which anyone applying for membership can take (and with varying questions). Assign mp's directly based on score. (If you want to replicate the ACBL “endurance” mp's then add an integer x years playing.)

I am not sure which requires more work, but new volunteers will need to be re-recruited and new questions made for the par contest. The advantage of the online quiz is that the person seeking mp-equivalents can take care of this himself.

Well there are probably many arguments against this as well… but just a thought.

If you win the A you seem to have 8 against lefty, J and J ambiguous. What about A, ruff D, pull last trump, heart to A, ruff diamond, finish trumps?
