Nice Paul Harvey imitation. Looks like picture of Bill
was taken at the Nebraska Regional.

Interesting post. Shows how bidding in competition has
changed over the years. So it is just a matter of
what your agreements are.

As I recall , that only lasted one tournament for
good reason.

I remember the first Swiss I played in. If you did not
win a least a fraction of a MP, you got your money
back! The entry was very large and you can imagine
what happened on the last round.

Since I rarely play, I have had exactly one incident
in Philly where I could fill out a form. It involved
a foreign pair who were given a two MP penalty on a
large top. Why would I waste my time when they
were only penalized so little? I would think
the Director would record the episode.

As I recall, that was happening many years ago and
led to the rule that both cards had to be the same
and both players had to play the same system.

None so far.

BTW, the ACBL never makes an apology and never corrects
any thing they have done wrong.

I have never had any action taken after a memo has been
filled out. It is easier for the ACBL to do nothing.

Not in my experience.

It is fitting that this post is next after the claim
question just before it! Many years ago my GNT from
district 14 was playing his team in I believe the
round of eight in Las Vegas. We were ahead by a few
imps with one segment to go but his team won by a few
imps. He was a good competitor and a pleasure to
play against.

Bart: Nice consolation prize for not appearing on

The answer is not to cut out coffee and gifts. The answer
is to stop million dollar losses. We need an outside
independent audit now!

I believe that I calculated that it cost $15.00 per
board at a recent National but I only stayed for two
events. That included air fare, Hotel, entries,
and food. That is not cheap entertainment. Also,
I seem to have several problems at almost every
National I attend. I believe that the BOD and
ACBL employees should make attending a more
player friendly experience.

Why would I have any obligation to stay at the host
Hotel? Many times I have tried to stay at the Host
Hotel and have not been able to. Providence and Chicago
are examples, in fact I had to stay at the Palmer
House in Chicago with no Bulletins and a very long
walk. I know there were buses but they did not run
on schedule. In Providence, I had to walk in rain
and snow. I would go the playing area and bring
Bulletins back for the other players. As I see it,
the only people who have an obligation to stay at
the Host Hotel are people making a living. I would
prefer to stay at the Host Hotel for health
reasons and for convenience.

This posting reminds me of the Abbot and Costello
routine “Who is on First?”

Jeff, you are correct. Taking away coffee shows exactly
why the ACBL does not care about volunteers or club
owners and directors. This is an insult! Taking away
such a little perk while losing millions is not
right.

Well Robb, that is interesting. I only bared one player
in my twenty plus years and was backed up by Jane
Johnson. After Jane passed away, I had more problems
which Jane predicted and she told me she had documented.
The ACBL allowed this person to make trouble for me
and I had to seek legal advice. I could not sue the
ACBL because they acted in a stupid manner and not
out of malice. If Jane did in fact have documents
in her file, which I truly believe, why did the
ACBL act as they did?
