Game bids are to play. If you want to bid Excusion, bid 2 first to set diamonds as trumps

I would have rebid 3 or even 4H with the West hand. 2 is for wimps.

As I have shown 5 spades and 11 HCP till now, bidding on looks totally obvious. 4N will give me the information I need.

Playing Precision, this hand is an automatic opening bid for me. I wouldnt even think about passing .

You are right, of course. But on the other hand, South might be having some fun at favorable vulnerability, conceding 50 per undertrick, if I don't X. As X will get me a spade lead (no suits besides clubs were bid), it might be worth the risk.

You are right, of course. Being VUL you have to be a little more careful, especially VUL/NVUL. There is a reason why some world-class pairs (for example Grue- Moss) play two different systems dependent on vulnerability.

I wholeheartedly agree. As a precision player, I love my trash 1 opening bids :-). As Meckwell said: We served millions of them. :-)

I would not be too angry about going down. The board was already lost in the bidding. Against anything but a very improbable heart lead, one has 12 cold tricks in NT (11 against a heart lead.) So +420 is not so hot anyway.

With approximately 30 HCP and no shortness 3N is usually best.

3 gameforcing? Strange. What would 3/3 show?

In our Meckwell Lite structure opener´s 2 rebid would show either 3 spades potentially with shortness or 4 with MIN and without shortness. Then:
1 - 1
2 - 2 N (asking)
3 (3, extras, no shortness) -4 (serious slamtry, CUE)
4 - 4 (no heart control)
5 (odd number of KC, heart control, club control - 6

Then only horrible bid is 2N. With the North hand I want to bid once and be silent afterwards. X is vey light especially VUL, but it shows both majors and tolerance for clubs. With this hand I don’t want to balance later on and I don’t like 1.

I would have bid 2 last round, showing a good raise to 2. I don’t like Xx with a fit.

Well, West should have bid 1N with his 18 HCP second round. As usual, playing pairs and all being non VUL, wining the race to 1N is decisive.

In 2 I have 0 tricks for partner, in 3 my hand wii take at least 3 tricks, probably more. So I will bid 3 and don’t think, this is close.

1 pass pass X
1 2NT pass 3NT
all pass

Easy bidding. West knows that East has promised majors with his X. As East doesn’t need to have an opening bid, he only bids 2N. East has an opening bid and raises to 3N. 9 Top Tricks, next board. .

X is very strange as West wasn't able to act after 1. North, of course, doesn't have 12-14 HCP, with that hand he would pass. As 2 will probably be doubled and could easily be very expensive I pass and hope for the best.

The ruling was horrible but I wouldn’t leave the takeout X in. Simply bid 2 and hope for the best. I want pd to balance again and his takeout X is probably borderline.
