Maybe. But why deliver so much information to the opps, if i don't have to. Sorry, I don't like pass at all and I dont agree that this is normal.

How can i avoid bidding 7, when pd is still interested in a grand slam, missing AK of the trump suit AND the diamond K. We must have 15 tricks……:-)

I would have bid 2 last round. Game is out of the picture after pd passed 1, so why not show my distribution? I will X 2 for T/O later on and pass 3.

Nice idea;-). But pd frequently has a strong NT which unfortunately he wasn't allowed to open :-). Then 1 in a 4-1 fit surely won't be a success. And the player in 4th seat will have a LOT of diamonds for sure.

I would never pass 1 X with the North hand. Would you?

After 1N (X) our side is forced till 2, 2 is the first contract the opponents might play undoubled. If the opponents run, the next double from both sides is T/0, further doubles are PEN. Takeout for us means that pd will only pass with one ore more SURE trump tricks and when knowing the opponents only have 8 or less trumps. This usually means that to pass a double you need to have 4 trumps.

I would have opened 1N. In Precision, opening 14-16 5332 hands with 1M frequently causes problems. Now I need to X (Takeout), as pd will play me for the usual rubbish if I pass. Playing MP further action is mandatory.

After your suggested play (which looks best): Spade K, diamond to the K, diamond ruff, heart, 2 X would have been very interesting. West needs to continue with the ace of spades, otherwise it is over. And the defense is far from easy even after that. Nice hand and great analysis as usual. :-)

After this bidding i would have bid 8 with the south hand. I probably would have made an overtrick ;-)

I dont have a sure fit or a sure game and 1N X will surely go down probably more than 1. So why not X? And the second X is clear T/O and pd will only pass with a good holding in and at least 4 trumps (of course this should have been agreed, so that pd doesn't expect me to have xx or xxx in . This is a different style that has merit, too). Then: again no problem detected.

Why didnt East bid 3! D second turn? Seems like the totally obvious bid. As far as I know, Ingberman uses the cheaper bid of 2N and 4th suit for all weak hands, so 2 was weak here What do I miss?

I exactly have the same agreements. Everything was fine until North"s final pass. WhyI pass a takeout X when the opps have 8-9 trumps and I have a MIN opener without a trump trick is beyond me. 2! H was totally obvious. South should try 2 then.

Well, playing Gazzilli after this start the west hand is already limited to 15. If you want to you. can still classify further by using 3 after 1 -1N - 2 - 2 N for very weak hands with extra distribution requesting a 3 bid. Direct 3 and 3 bids then show the 13+-14 55 and 64 hands (forcing).

The problem is that West never showed more than 11-12 HCP and the 3 small diamonds in the East hand don't look very promising thinking about a 5 or 6 level contract in clubs. Wouldnt West bid exactly the same without the ace of spades?

You are right, it is a problem when they can preempt at the 3 level in second seat. But on this hand this does not look very probable ;-). Only 1 (3) X pass ?? seems remotely possible. And then you will either pass or bid 3N with the west hand.

But I get and accept your point.

Either play Gazzilli or use 3 after 2N as a puppet to differentiate between weak and strong hands.

Ingberman says, the cheaper bid of 2N and 4th suit shows all weak hands, letting responder pass the next bid and everything else is forcing. I like that aproach.

West never showed his strength, which is the main problem. Playing Precision you would open 1, later on show 5+ , responder raises and the rest is easy.

In a natural frame this is much tougher, but 3N after 3 looks dissatisfying. Maybe 4N is an idea, showing extras and a good diamond stopper.

With 13 HCP facing a precision opener, I dont think you have to be afraid that 3N is the absolute limit of the hand. 4 after 3 looks fine, limiting my hand (I already showed 12+ HCP with 2) and showing where I live (all my points are in the red suits). After that reaching 6 is a piece of cake and reaching 7 is possible.

Bidding 3 with xx simply doesnt look right when I have alternatives.
