Some scoring that high are gone, some are scoring a lot less. This has nothing to do with the field getting better but a lot to do with video cameras and opponents being aware of how things were done.

No shortage of septuagenarian and sexagenarian males apparently. The world is such a great place with those in command …

Hi Chip. We only played one bermuda bowl match and I will not tell you who won. Anyway, a serious question!

Being the best (IMHO) bridge amateur in modern times, could you expand your views on elite bridge players maintaning relatively demanding jobs? Are the days of great amateur players over? If not, how would an amateur (with partner) be able to reach world class level?

David Burn. I reviewed the last 3 matches by the Senior team in the BBO archives. You apparently must have watched some other tables if your item (a) above included analysis of the play by the competitors. For the musically oriented I would now like to quote Billy Ocean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n3sUWR4FV4

Ian, it seems the name of your system was very well chosen. https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/grumpy

The problem with these percentage award rulings is that the “bad guys” can always act on the edge knowing the TD will restore a great percentage of their score. I don't know if this is how we desire the game to be played. IMHO the players should, like in golf, be actively ethical and not try to take advantage of everything the referee (TD) does not notice. YMMV.

It should also be noted that players from some countries are regularily getting the benefit of a doubt from the directors.

Easy to see how Fantoni-Nunes fit in with Zimmerman-Multon. Both pairs makes me want to puke.

I say like so many others Kelsey and Reese. There are other great books but for consistency and quality they stand out. My copy of “Test your communications” is very worn but I always come back to it when preparing.

Eric Jannersten was a great writer with the help of Jan Wohlin, rarely mentioned but a huge contributor.

I cherish my autographed copy of Edgar Kaplan: “Competitive Bidding in Modern Bridge”. It actually says “To Lars, who doesn't need to read it!” A good man.

What makes you think the EBL cares about cheating?

My post here reflects my personal opinion. But I will make a deal with you. When Zimmerman and the other Monaco players apologizes for playing with F/N and give upp all titles and MP won with them, I will apologize here!

Deal?

In 2 yrs maximum FN will be back on the Monaco team. The corruption in the WBF/EBL runs deep. What Zimmerman wants Zimmerman gets.

Dennis Hastert served 13 months for being a serial child molester as a teacher and then embezzling funds to cover it up. Jeffrey Epstein provided child prostitutes for celebrities apart from using them himself. His prosecutor Alexander Acosta (head of the labor department in the current US Government) cut a deal and Epstein served 1 year. He was allowed to work from home and only sleep at the minimum security prison. Note: this is not in any way a political statement.

“ … Including 5431s …” The cc says NV: 9-12 (13-15 in 3rd sometimes less). I shudder to think what would happen to pairs from many other nations doing this.

Are you saying NZ and Bulgaria got lucky? IMHO they outplayed their more famous opponents. Luckily a skewed Swiss did not stop the better team from winning and advancing!
