IMO, Depending on your District, I think STAC's, World Wide Pairs, the Gold Point Game, and similar events might be considered more serious. In my District I don't believe NAP or GNT club qualifiers are “serious” events. The District level finals for NAP or GNT would be a serious event.

It seems to me The Common Game is great for non-serious bridge. I love the idea for club games. The hands are in no way secure and it seems cheating would be trivial. I accept that for what it is: a small risk in exchange for a fun way for clubs to add a new element to the game. I would prefer clubs not use the Common Game for more serious events.

My friends and I have started to use archived Common Game results and files to make our own kind of Doop game. We duplimate out an old set of Common Game hands, order pizza and beverages, and then play some bridge. We check the hands against the online results. This is a fun way to play some casual bridge. Thanks to the Common Game and everyone who participates in it for helping make this possible!

Will Bridgewinners offer BW points? With bbo points, okbridge ratings, swan games points, etc., this ACBL “monopoly” is getting weaker and weaker.

How about answering the following: Does your system have a way to bid a 4441 twelve count? 13 count? My understanding is that Fantunes does not without putting it into the 1NT. This systemic 1NT does not seem to meet any of the exceptions for a Midchart agreement to me.

It is long past time for teams to follow the rules. If this superchart agreement wasn't properly pre-alerted and given to the DIC the day before, I think this pair deserved a procedural penalty. I'm OK with the rule being changed, but until it is, it should be followed.

Perhaps a Greek junior sponsor is creating their own team “Monaco”. I for one welcome our new Thessalonikian overlords.

I live in ACBL land, so can I have a written agreement at my table when answering this poll? If not, can I at least complain about how much better it would have been if I was answering the poll in the EBU or WBF? At least I'd know that whatever happened, the results would be easier to access online and updated faster!

I would like clear guidelines on when my “forcing pass” is alertable as I have never seen one alerted, nor have I ever alerted one. What are the rules when not behind screens. Let me ask about 3 situations.

1. We're red vs white. Partner opens a precision 1 and my rho bids 1. I bid 2 showing a limit raise or better for spades. RHO bids 4S and partner passes. Do I alert this pass? If partner doubles do I alert the double? What about if my RHO bids 3 instead of 4?

2. Red vs. white partner opens 1 16+ artificial forcing, I bid 2 game forcing with 5 or more diamonds. My RHO bids 3. We play pass double inversion here. When partner passes it required that I double back in with most hands, and otherwise further shaping out. Pass is not an option. P would have doubled for take out with many hands with shorter hearts. Is partner's pass alertable? How about his double if he doesn't pass?

3. Partner opens 1 and I make a game forcing 2 call. LHO bids 2. Double by partner would be penalty. Partner passes. Is this alertable? I can not pass 2 undoubled.

The Utopia Nationals are an atrocity. Inaccurate reporting may have lead some to believe that players followed suit but I was disgusted at the poor level of play. Utopia bridge is some of the worst around. I have even seen people play better at an ACBL national, and we all know how pathetic the play is there. The site was bad, the food awful, and the accommodations terrible. The volunteers of the Utopia Bridge League should be ashamed of themselves. Why can't people just follow the EBU's example already?

See you all at the Utopia National next year! If only my clients would stop paying me to play in these awful nationals, I could stay home and yell at the kids to stay off my yard!

In negotiating Sectional locations for my local Unit, most hotels would not even let us reserve space unless we guaranteed a block of rooms would be reserved at a certain rate. The “rental rate” for space without any room nights was priced too high for anyone to afford. It would have been cheaper to book the rooms and not use them then to just rent the conference space. Unless you have managed a large conference, I don't think you understand the negotiations and scheduling involved. For a SECTIONAL it is difficult. I can't imagine planning and negotiating for an NABC.

The ACBL deserves lots of criticism but just complaining about it fixes nothing. Find ways to get involved. Find ways to improve things. Join your local Unit as a volunteer or run for its board. Email your district director your concerns. Build consensus. If all else fails, feel free and try to build your own replacement organization. A few years ago an organization popped up to run individual tournaments with prize money. I can't even find a history of its tournaments or results.

I hear this request almost once a tournament. I always answer that we feel obligated to follow the required procedure unless a director indicates we should stop. I then invite them to call the director if they'd like to make the request. Its been a long time since anyone requested the director but I do remember one director acquiescing to the request in a GNT C qualifier back in the day.

I almost always wait for the opponents to arrive before dealing, but will start if they are very late. I never mind if someone wants to reshuffle, but I'm not likely to help.

I play that 4NT here is quantitative but that if opener accepts he answers key cards on the way. Responder can stop missing too many key cards or key cards and the queen. This has the downside that if opener rejects the slam invite we have to play 4NT.
