3NT would then require 27 points to bid. We teach 26 BTW. I tell them 25 when they can pull off end plays and squeezes.
Why 26 and not 27? Because of the bonus!!!

Exactly. We, several of us club owners, intend on bringing a motion before the BoG in Atlanta.

I want the BoD to establish a BoCO.
A Board of Club Owners.
Not a committee, that should be extended for another two years, or at least until the BoCO is established and up and running, but a real Board on equal footing with the BoD in matters relating to clubs.

40 HCP, 13 tricks…Each trick is 3 points. Most bids that have ranges are 3-pts.
There is one bidding axiom, the 3-point range required for an opening 1NT bid.
Now go out and build a bidding system using only that info.
That's how Honors teaches bidding to our beginners. Doesn't everyone? Memorization is needed for people who can not think logically. There are beginner bridge students who need to memorize the tables. We must also provide a structure for them to learn. But our emphasis, both in teaching bidding and card play, is heavily weighted toward the beautiful, always amazing, logic of the game.

I just remember seeing commercials for video games and thinking, the video gaming industry can spend this kind of money on advertising and we, a National Organization, the biggest user of convention space in the country, with 3,000 outlets, 165.000 committed members, and 75 years of history, can't.
What conclusions can be drawn from this? I don't know. Just sad.

That's a buck and change per ACBL member. If we put up about ten bucks each, you think we can get a 20 second Super Bowl slot?

Add my 2 cents.
Honors has co-presidents. Scott Levine, my co-president, plays bad cop to my good cop. And it works.
As to Question #2…I can not stress Mr. Powell's point enough.

Note: No political connotation is attached to this:
Trump and Kim.
Adversaries trying to negotiate.
This is polling at a 71% approval rating.
BoD and Club Owners.
Take a poll.

Not so much chaotic as frustrating is what it is like. Knowing how utterly pointless our motions are if the Board of Directors has already made up its mind. I've been serving through about half a dozen BoG meetings and I can't recall a single instance where the BoD reversed itself on petition from the BoG.

BOD…BOG…BOCO….Board of Club Owners…Not a committee of, but a true BOARD OF CLUB OWNERS.
Let the 25 have their perks. They actually work for it.
Let the BoG have their coffee and cake.
Let the League have a Board that actually knows something about the “Life Blood of the Organization”.

Ray, you have it backwards. I'm ready to have the Unit move to my club.

I'm forwarding this to David Moss our NYC Unit's president.
Every club owner, in every unit that doesn't work like this, should do the same. What a wonderful model.

Have you tried smaller classes to start?
We never do more than 3 to 4 at most for beginners.
Also, we put cart before the horse…the first six sessions are mostly play. Two 1/2 lessons on bidding is all we give them.

After six weeks we have them play in a social practice session with set up hands. (Free to students).

BesteBridge.com, an online teaching site, we give free with the beginner's course. We MAKE them practice between sessions.
You can look at it free for two days and get back to me if you like what you see.

Very interested in FB and what a pop up is. The video sounds intriguing. Tell us more.

Do you have the actual mailing? Maybe we can learn more about exactly what doesn't work. This is valuable. And thank you for sharing.

I'll pass this on to Barbara McLendon who helps run our youth program here in Manhattan. I remember cream cheese pie fondly.

They are still very popular at Honors.
Amy idea why they aren't there?
