Instead of a course this is more of a two way discussion so I was thinking that the speaker being able to show a hand for discussion and later show the actual hand might make it go faster and be easier to see. It takes uptime putting up the whole hand after each discussion.

hoping to find an easy to use template for posting hands

Thanks this is not a full blown teaching course but more of a two way discussion before the game handled by several of the local higher level players. Handouts and writing on the board but I thought using a video display might make it easier.

Sorry, the edit function is no longer available. However ,the bottom line is that we were offering sone free plays, food and lectures to get people to come and stay in the hotel.

The tournament is large but many are locals and many stay with Atlanta friends. We need to sell more room nights to keep our hotel happy. We need to sell about 5 more rooms and this is our latest gimmick.

We copied this off the ACBL email blast but it did not format well here.

I do apologize and I have often made mistakes in my posting on Bridgewinners. However, before posting on this site on this issue I did a search and the prior article did not appear. It seemed like it was fresh news. I will further confess I just look at the site about 1 or 2 times a week. All my bridge partners can tell you about worst mistakes I have made.

I totally missed that thread and when I put in a search here it didn't come up for me.
However I have been watching for years hoping the case would be solved. It was always interesting to play against him.

They said they were going to spend their limited amount on marketing budget on youth and seniors.
When you get a 30 year old into bridge you may have a good customer for 30 to 40 years for tournaments.

Not against programs for the young but I think we should go after people who are in the work force too. One idea was a pilot program to go to a big company and teach there right after work while rush hour traffic was going on for about an hour once a week maybe expanding into short game

When I got into playing bridge in the 1970's there were many working people playing bridge who became friends and we have been playing tournament bridge for forty years. I have tried on several occasions to suggest to the ACBL that we need to make working people a target group for keeping tournament bridge going. I have always received a cold shoulder on the proposals and an indication of no support for projects.

I a strong supporter of us all keep pushing for change but it must come sooner rather than a five year plan.

For new members when you hear that changes are coming soon and the problems are being worked on you might want to read a few pages from a COI newsletter from 1992!

With some help from Nicholas I have a link now
http://www.mjh.com/feagin/coi_oct_1992.pdf

In the mid 1990s many promises were made about how the BOD and its committees were going to be making changes in the ACBL governance. If you read this little bit of history you will be weary of this 4 or 5 year plan for change.
(COI every few months published many articles during the 1990s pushing for change and received many promises)

Creative legal minds can find a way to bring about the change in a shorter period of time than 5 years. They can keep their position for the full term but what they can oversee and do can be changed.

Time is of the essence given our sad state of affairs.

maybe that was the basis of what I was told. Always hard to determine the actual policies

That is my understanding from others but if it's not the case I hope someone from the BOD will spell out the use of the “free suites” .
