I have been recently urging again that the ACBL seek outside help in making these NABC contracts worth millions of dollars rather than promoting somebody out of accounting or the directors staff to do this job. This is the perfect time since they fired Wendy.

My guess is they won't.

I don't the name of what I play. I like it and I would like to know the name.

x=penalty oriented partner will pass if they have something to contribute.
2 multi partner is expected to bid 2

2 majors
2 and 2 natural

2 no trump over one no trumps big unspecified two suiter announcing a game if we have a fit.

2 partner bids 2s which can be passed or raised with s. If the 2 bidder bids a major over 2 they have that major and unspecified minor.
If the 2 bidder over 2 bids 2no trump both minors. if 2 bidder bids 3 over 2 a one suit club hand.

this system has worked well over the years.

But using them 4 or 5 days before impacts what a hotel can offer another major convention. Talk to a high level hotel executive and they can perhaps make it clear how they are related to major hotel business.

Someone suggested that taking the hotel major suites for 14 or 15 days probably didn't matter. Not true to tie up major conventions a big deal is having their best suites for that business. Using it four days or so beyond our convention is a big deal to a hotel.
Ask a high-level hotel person. It's a free deal maybe in the ACBL mind but it is a big deal in some cases.

Not suggesting anything other than the fact that we have a good piece of business and the hotels will give us certain benefits, perks or concessions and currently a good many benefits we are currently getting are directly or indirectly linked to those large and long BOD meetings.

that may be true but in dealing with hotels they are going to give you x amount in concessions so if you take for the BOD meetings it will reduce what the hotel is going to give on other items like room rates or lower F&B costs and there is a real value for the comp suites or rooms for the BOD etc

I have done a great deal of negotiating hotel space for bridge sectionals and regionals including Regionals outside of Atlanta. Hotels like other businesses place a certain value on our business. We have a great piece of business. Two weekends where the hotel sells a large number of rooms etc is a good piece of business.

For some time we have relied on in-house staff members to negotiate these million dollar deals as part of their on the job training. Atlanta volunteers will have to do 3 NABCs in 10 years because the ACCBL has trouble making deals. 2013,2018 and 2023.

A big focus of the ACBL has always been to make sure arrangements for the BOD meetings are part of the concessions perks by the hotel. I have not seen an NABC hotel contact in a long time but one of the concessions the ACBL actively seeks is how those 30 plus hotel rooms for the BOD and staff will be handled. You need to understand a big asset of the hotel is their major suites. If we require the hotel to give up their major suites for 15 days it impacts their ability to make deals in another time period and this can be a major concession by the hotel which effects your total package they will give you.

When the ACBL tells the membership that the average cost of their BOD meetings is $ 75,000 (I presume that when this statement was made Hawaii was left out of the average of $ 75,000) they are hiding the true cost because we are probably taking a good portion in our hotel concessions relating to BOD meetings. In the old days, the first inquiry to the hotel was will the BOD members get the "concierge level. I would like to see the calculations of the $ 75,000. I am willing to bet there are hidden costs not included or thought about in arriving at this figure. I am going to ask for these calculations. Do you think I will get them?

In negotiating each hotel contract, the concessions the ACBL is seeking for our business the lowest priority for the ACBL is getting a discount on F&B that the local committee will provide to the players. As a result, a small bag of trail mix or a two bite size pie cost $ 9. In seeking regional contracts, the three highest priorities are room rates, parking and discounted F&B for the players.

You would not believe how many locals only played between 0 to 2 days because of the overall costs and other factors.

There is so much to discuss about the membership meeting which needs to be discussed.when I get time from the tournament.

As to those who fear something radical could happen from a membership meeting there are too many build in control s but Los Vegas proper bylaw motions will be submitted to change the BOd which will be in the AcBl bulletin for all to observe.

I can't see on my phone so forgive amy errors

Further Revision

We open a No trump and they Bid at the two level.
Simple stated our approach is basically systems are on!
By combining using a double of certain two level bids as transfers, using two spades as size asking and also using Larry Cohen structure of Transfer Lebensohl , I have put together a structure (FTL-Feagin Transfer Lebensohl) that allows for more invitational and forcing bids than other structures and only giving up a direct double as a penalty double of a two bid or a double of a two bid as a very light takeout bid. (We hope by doubling when it’s not a transfer by either partner with a doubleton will allow the other partner to convert some bids into a penalty double situation). Some doubles are transfers.

Over their double of one no trump all systems are on.
If the no trump bidder doubles something at the two level then the double is a takeout bid with a doubleton.

TWO CLUBS

Over a 2♣ bid which does not show both majors a double is Stayman and generally shows at least 8 HCP maybe 7 high card points (HCP) with good distribution. If their 2 ♣ is for the majors then a double shows 8 HCP or more and 2♦ would be non forcing and natural..

TWO DIAMONDS
Over a 2♦ a double is a transfer to Hearts unless their bid shows hearts. If it shows hearts a double is card showing with at least 8 HCP. Bidding 2♠ is always our normal size asking bid (after 2♠ you will get either a response of two no trump (min.) or 3♣ (max) ). After using the size asking bid then bidding a new suit other than 3♣ or 3♦ (which is to play) then a new bid confirms that you had a forcing club bid suggesting playing game or slam in clubs instead of 3 no trump. The 2♠ size asking bid helps when you have an invitational hand in general and gives you something you can use when you have the invitational in clubs hand.
Over a 2♦ a double is transfer to hearts , 2♥ (transfer to♠ ) or two spades (size asking)
Bids at the three level are transfers with at least invitational values.

Transfer Lebensohl (FTL) as described below but with some extra bids being available because we are using the double at the two level for transfers at the two level. This also allows you to show whether you have five or six of your major with invitational hands.

TWO HEARTS
Over a bid of 2♥ which shows ♥ s a double is a transfer to Spades. Bidding 2♠ is always our normal size asking bid. If their 2♥ bid shows spades a double would show ♥.

TWO SPADES

Over a 2♠ bid by them a double shows invitational strength and nothing about distribution.
Two no trump is regular Lebensohl used for weak hands or show strong hands with a spade stopper.

The rest of the system we are playing is my version of FTL-Transfer Lebensohl.
Two no trump is a transfer to 3♣ signing off in clubs or after the forced 3♣ response and then a bid in any other suit thereafter bid by responder is non forcing in that suit except a cue bid or bidding a suit that we could have transfered to at the two level.
If ♦s is their suit bidding 3♦ directly would be Stayman without a stopper.

In FTL other three bids are transfer Lebensohl bids. They are transfer bids of at least Invitational strength or greater. If we bid a suit on the 3-level, starting with 3 ♣, it is a transfer to the next suit. By transferring, we are showing the suit (5 cards unless they have bid spades then 5+) transferred to the major with invitational or better values. When we show invitational or better, opener can sign-off (just bid the suit transferred to), or he can accept the game try (by doing many things, including 3NT if he wishes). If opener “signs off” and you have the “or better,” of course you just bid again (naturally). Some examples:

1NT (2♥) 3♣ = Diamonds, invitational or better (to sign off in ♦ , responder would have bid 2NT to relay to 3♣, then bid 3♦.
1NT (2♥) 3♦ =shows 4 ♠ and a six card minor.
1NT (2♥) 3♥ = stayman without a stopper
1nt (2♥) 3♠= game values 4441 singleton heart
Remember, if responder wants to sign off in a major, he transfers as described above at the 2-level if possible, or over spades uses 2NT to relay to 3 ♣ to sign off on the 3-level.

When transferring to your suit on the 3-level, you have to take their suit into account that if 2♥ showed a ♥ suit“ bidding 3♥ is an extra bid which shows four ♠ and probably a six card minor. With long Spades you double 2 ♥ to show 5 or more spades.
If their suit is spades bidding at the three level 3♠ is Stayman without a stopper but transferring into spades shows 4 ♥ and a probably a six card minor.
Example 1NT (2♠) showing spades bidding 3 ♥ transfering into spades shows four ♥ and a six card minor
Cue-bidding their suit means what it means with regular lebensohl, typically ”Stayman, no stopper.“ This assumes ”FADS–Fast Always Denies Stopper.“ If you want to Stayman with a stopper, you go through the 2NT relay, then cue-bid 3.

Review if they bid spades showing spades our system:
After 1NT they bid 2 ♠ showing ♠s and or ♠ and another our bids would be as follows:
2NT = Relay to 3 ♣ (either to play 3 ♣, or as a prelude to sign-off in 3 ♦ or 3 ♥, or to follow with 3 ♠ to show Stayman and a stopper, or to follow with 3NT to just show a stopper-no Stayman)
3♣= Invitational ♦ or better (Opener rejects the invitation by bidding 3♦, but responder bids on naturally with a GF. Opener pre- accepts by bidding above 3 ♦)
3♦ = Invitational ♥ or better (Opener rejects by bidding 3 ♥, but responder bids on naturally with a GF. Opener pre-accepts by bidding above 3 ♥)
3 ♥= not a transfer to their suit but showing four hearts and probably a six card minor.-
3 ♠ directly = Cue-bid showing ”Stayman, with no stopper"
3NT = To play, no 4-card suit, no stopper (Fast Denies)

Many notions are being passed around but the focus needs to be changing the structure and nature of the ACBL BOD. The need has been discussed constantly for over 30 years. The BoD has discussed the need themselves many times in many ways but given their current structure, they will never do it. We must start the process to do it.
