Well way more significant is the median than the average.

I think it is fine to play out a hopeless hand-sometimes even experts imagine that they are squeezed- as long as there is an even tempo.

We need to be careful not to Judge a less experienced player even when they play a tad slowly and search for clues.

What is certainly very bad is when a knowledgible player plays slowly and with emphasis on thoughts when the hand is hopeless.
particularly against less than expert players

Far be it for me to accuse others of overreacting but after reading the OP from where the quote came from I think Mr.Linxwiler was doing what he should be do by supporting his staff. The OP he was questioning was due to a bit of overreaction. The staff probably gets a lot of issues to deal with and may (or may not) have acted a bit hastily. They do better than any cable company.I should also note that I was impressed with Mr Linxwiler's editorial a bit back that took a brave stand.

That said it would be a huge benefit to bridge if the BOD and CEO would read the comments on BW and be able to act on some very real problems. Instead of lumping all the BWers in a ball of yech. They should listen to those who actually play a lot of bridge and sadly too many obviously don't as ACBL live proves-when it works.

You know my generation saved untold lives by complaining about a really bad war not to even begin the unjust laws against a certain herb. Eventually someone listened. OK I really did not understand that much but the peace rallies were a great place to meet girls.

I recollect that there was a hand where the opener was 1 C precision and the 2D was not alerted and again 2H was bid and the same ruling.

At the NABC it went
P P 1S P
2C And I sensed Drury I asked and was told natural.
They found their H fit but 2C was Drury
Pard led the D and 6 was made.
At first the director conferred with other directoros and ruled 6 and that we should have asked? When we assured him we did they changed to 5.

However on a Club lead with Ax op Qxx declarer might have ducked with no obvious C ruff but on this hand I would have gotten a S ruff if he did.

What I would have liked is that the auction went correctly w/alert and then we could see what declarer would have done w/o knowing the 4-1 spades

I so agree with those that feel that asking puts an onus on the asker.

The was a hand where it went 1C P 1H showing spades(no alert) and Bruce Ferguson bid 1S!. His opponents avoided the 5-3 fit and found NT.

Now I often see failure to alerts in more obvious situations and I agree mostly the advanced players have a responsibility to inquire but these examples are a bit off the mainstream and by asking too much you give too much away.

There are so many examples of how bad the rule is and that is why we have this web site.

The 2D being anything but waiting is a great example-I wonder how often a player ONLY ASKS when s(he) has D's. ANd why should they be under that preassure?

The OP and first responder are right on with their comments

I think a simple start would be to simply calculate points won to points available.

How does $1.80 compare to other bridge expenses?
The average player plays r 40 sessions a year at the club and that takes into account that many play 0 or few
Most pay more than that for gas just to get to the club
Entire to national has gone up from 40 to 60 in 5 years. Add in the extra fees for 6 players and screens it can be 138% increase in between Vegas NABC 5 YEARS

1.80 is trivial so consider the value for the game in promoting the tournament's

And 20 hours a month? Try editing one I codit D16 and we each spend a bit more than that. I answer over 100 emails a month alone. Actually we tried digital and there a lot of complaints about it. The paper not only helps the a drive player but also promotes the game to many inactive, NOW many players just don't want to go online

David, I like to go over the bridgebase matches and always go for the big swings but really watching live can be extra exciting. You realize the key plays and bids and when a player pauses it becomes really exciting waiting for the play/bid.

Matt is more than an outstanding director, he is a mensch
Once I had a terrible time with poor lighting and when the directirs said there was nothing they good do Matt overheard and had a lamp brought in
At the Orlando WBF I realized I needed a scoring change, the directors said I had 30 min after the session end . I went to Matt and he was the only one who seemed to know that I had until the start of the next session.
Besides that I could discuss real music with him
Good luck Matt and thanks for all

The popularity of TV was pretty much parallel with the rise of drug culture. You know neither requires much intellectual input. hmmm Like comparing Dylan, Cohen,Simon etc. to contemporary music.
