Pretty easily when they lead 4th highest, I said it was a weak field!

It was our first (and possibly) the last visit to the Thursday afternoon session at my local club. This was my first outing after knee replacement surgery 3 weeks ago.

Definitely raise to 3, part of winning the battle is stopping the opps from firing any shots (i.e. keep them out of the auction if you can).

I don't like jumping when I have a shortage in my partner's suit, so would want a stronger hand to do so.

I ‘ll just reply to point 4 since I primarily play against a weak NT and the goals are slightly different (We might have game on,less likely against a strong NT).

Your primary aim is to stop the opps playing 1NT but you need a safe place to play, this won’t always be your best contract, but finding that might incur additional risk.
So if you find a minor suit fit don't go looking for somewhere better to play, you might end up somewhere worse.

Thanks Jon, its what we have chosen to call a ‘constructive pre-empt’.
Our 2NT opening is such a pre-empt in either D, H or S OR a normal pre-empt in C (responder normally bids 3C, poc)
3C is constructive, 3D/H normal.
3S is a long solid minor (as per Gambling 3NT), 2S can be a 7 card suit.

I can see the advantages in rolling this up a level with a longer suit, will discuss with my p. (we currently use 3NT as specific ace ask).

Money is the root of all evil seems to apply here.
If paying more to shift brackets was an option then my option would be to play elsewhere.

Just re-read the original post and ‘clearly’ would appear to be an overbid.

Auto-double by north of 2 with a useless doubleton as per our agreement (playing wNT).

Why should some mediocre player get to play in bracket 1 just because they can afford to hire in some talent?
Brackets should be decided on merit not on money.
