Is there ever stratification for an NABC event?

Not even paid Pros, I would feel bad about potentially letting a partner down with no money/other incentive involved.

As the 3NT bidder I thought this showed a hand that was willing to play 3NT even opposite a bust diamond hand especially if the bust diamonds end up being a 7 card suit. AQ T8xx AKx KTxx at least has play for 9 tricks opposite x xxx Txxxxxx xx. However, my main purpose was to understand what 3NT showed and I think accepting with a desire to compete to 4m makes more sense. So while passing 3NT certainly worked better on the hand, it seems like the “compete if you have the weak minor(s)” is going to come up a lot more often and is a better interpretation of my bid.

I don't think Limited ACBL titles mean a whole lot. Technically the “NABC Golden 49er Pairs” was a limited national event, but I don't think anyone cares or remembers who won them except possibly the winners. This seems similar to something like the red ribbons: cool to win, but doesn't count for GLM status and probably wouldn't make a huge difference for those trying to become professional players or teachers.

although in that case it was less ‘old people with lots of points’ and instead just a lot of C pairs sitting N/S. Average power rating is much higher E/W so the degree of difficulty adjustment when figuring out power rating is much higher for E/W players

Seeding varies heavily by club and director. At the “strong” local club game, they put out colored signs for A/B/C and ask people to sit at a table that matches their masterpoints. They'll then usually look around before start time and have an E/W pair swap with a N/S if necessary. Other club games generally strat by points as people sign up or don't strat at all. This results in N/S typically being significantly weaker as they tend to be older and have a higher masterpoint to skill ratio. This was particularly amusing one time as I looked around and noticed that 6 of the top 7 pairs in a 23 table game were all sitting E/W including multiple national champions. You can see this in some of the club games that count for power ratings: E/W will have a DOD of 4 while N/S will be DoD of 0.

If one actually wants to play bridge in the morning there are plenty of opportunities at nationals. Between sleeping in to recover from late night PMs, getting some exercise, and making/eating lunch it seems like there is already plenty to fill the morning.

Seems like an interesting idea. I mainly wish it wasn't overlapping with the actual NABC as I usually have plenty going on already at NABCs and wouldn't want to spend brainpower on this that I might need late in the 2nd session of a real event.

Kickback is clearly superior and anyone who plays it very much shouldn't have accidents even with first time partnerships. 1430 vs 3014 seems fairly irrelevant, I play 1430 in all situations except exclusion because that's essentially standard at this point and I can't remember anyone ever wanting to play anything different.

Added the “I want to pick options 4 and 5” as a poll option as well, seems to be popular

(East didn't think partner could have the club A for their bidding, so wasn't in a rush to exclusion)

That's reasonable. Was trying to edit the poll to suggest 7 as an option for those who would have preferred 5 at the last turn, but it isn't saving.

I'm aware of the what the ACBL is and their url, but I wasn't able to find any archives like what you mentioned. Can you point me at where on the acbl.org site these archives are? Or are you just assuming that it must exist because the ACBL is a large organization?

Yeah, this is a great resource and we've used it occasionally as well. Unfortunately, there's only so many of these before we run out :(

Can you point me at these archives? I spent 15 minutes looking/googling and can't find them anywhere on the site.

I own doop, but the hands come as paper slips as I recall. One of the nice things about a dealer file is we can quickly make 30-36 boards using a duplicating machine and play them. When I've played Doop, it takes a while for each person to make every hand and mistakes are also common.

What problems exactly? I didn't see this as a system issue, more of a priority issue in MPs: prioritize the NT/hiding information from defenders vs showing the diamond suit in case partner has a black suit weakness or shortness and diamond support.
