I thought that this time I had found a poll that would surely be unanimous. Wrong again. I'm surprised that you even posted this, Steve.

How does the Rodwell information change anything? Who are we playing against? What round is it? What's the state of the match?

Alan, just because it's favorable does that mean that partner always holds xx xx xx QTxxxxx? And that he would open 1 with xxx Qx x KQTxxxx? Never mind, my comment is almost as ridiculous as yours.

And you wouldn't Texas with that hand? I would so as not to make partner guess which cards work and which don't. Besides, that's just one well constructed hand, got any more?

I would like to see some sample hands expected by the 4 bidders. I think partner would have gotten to 4 himself with any hand that would give a good play for game opposite this.

A victory for weak JS at 2 level, partner knows immediately that we have at least 6 spades and can almost bid 6 at his second bid.

Planning to rebid 2 and then 3 after 2NT. My hand is not quite so clear after opening 1. I guess my auction could show 4153 but I would probably bid 3NT at my 3rd turn with that.

I will admit that I didn't even consider not getting to game. I'm sure partner could have lots of hands where game wouldn't make but give him xxx xxx Jxx xxxx and it's odds on. That's not too much to ask, even from my partners :)

I must be missing something, playing Kokish this hand is easy to bid after opening 2.

2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3

Richard, I am assuming you intend rebidding 2 after the likely 2 response. I think that will likely lead to some problems later in the auction, partner probably inferring at least a good 5 bagger. Myself, when I am faced with a choice of bids in later rounds, usually chose to raise opener's suit if he has opened 2. At least opening 1 will allow you to find the best strain in the event that you get another chance to bid.
David C., as long as I am going to open at the one level, I prefer to open the suit that will best describe my hand after later bids.

3 at least gives partner more chances to make a meaningful rebid than 4, which almost guarantees a 4 rebid.

My thoughts exactly, a coin flip.

I know I may get to play 1 but it's unlikely. Also I'm not out of the woods even if someone bids, but I don't like having to rebid 2NT after a 2 opener with a small stiff in a major. All in all, I'll take my chances with 1.

Pass, 1 would be nice unless you have a partner who likes to compete.

That wouldn't even be a minimum for a raise to 2! I thought the choice was between 3 and a splinter. Mini-splinter would be perfect.

This hand “feels” like better than a minimum 4 call but not quite good enough to drive to the 5 level.

What do you bid with no singleton and a good hand?

Did I really double 1?

Wouldn't 4 be exclusion?
