I feel like I am being asked to translate some obscure, long dead language.

This hand will be easier to describe after a 2 opening.

I'm going after s. The odds favor bringing in the suit for 1 loser even opposite a void.

Partner has 5 s and probably only 3 s so 3. Pass should imply good spades.

Kieran, and s is a suit you DO have? I prefer 1NT but would like to be playing 2C artificial balanced GF.

It's close. I'm not especially worried about where to play it if I dbl and partner doesn't sit but the hand is much more suited to offense.

I would be interested in hearing some of those agreements. I'm too lazy to come up with a system myself.

So my partner made a negative dbl over 2 with a void? Could it be that you just didn't think of it?

I think 3 shows this hand except for the stopper. I don't mind whether partner passes or bids 3NT.

Why didn't I double 5?

Maybe my 4 bid will discourage a lead against 6

How can partner not have a solid suit when I have this much? He can't have AQJxxx.. in s and an outside entry. Therefore he can't have spades.

We don't have to have more than an 8 card fit and partner didn't take action over 2. Partner will most likely leave it in and we will be going for a 1 trick set. I don't like the odds.

I considered 5 but didn't think it was good enough to invite a grand. If it goes P P 6 I can pass to show 1st round control. If 6 gets passed out I am satisfied.

I'm supposed to make a penalty double with this hand so why wouldn't I? A pass is unacceptable but 3NT is a possibility.

I assume the doublers are hoping partner can either pass (but that is unlikely when I hold 3 s) or bid 3NT in which case it should be played from my side. I think the odds favor pass.
