Interesting, what kind of hand could partner have passed in first seat that is worth a 5 bid here? I probably would have doubled rather than bid 2 but not sure how that would have changed the problem.

Obviously open 1, in any seat.

But it counts to 20.5 Alfred E. Newman points.

Partner is likely to have 3+ diamonds and I don't have much defense. This could easily be a double partscore swing.

I would expect a 2 bid to show more along the lines of a 5+ card spade suit and 3-6 hcp.

Disagree, I'll take my sure plus at imps as well.

Since I mistakenly doubled 3 I can never show a hand this good for clubs now. Partner will always play me for wasted values in hearts. The best I can do now is 5 but we may be missing a laydown slam.

Would 4 be last train? If so then that's my bid.

I would like slightly better clubs to pass.

Assuming partner holds the A you need him to hold <4 hearts as well as getting splits in both clubs and spades.

Double I guess but I'm wondering why partner didn't double.

3. Flat hand with a worthless Q. I just noticed the 7+ hcp requirement, wonder what the reasoning behind that is.

Why wouldn't you want to get your lead director in at the one level?

Yeah, then you could play a 6-0 heart fit instead of a 6-3 spade fit. That's the ticket!

Playing un vs un, shouldn't 3 show less than invitational values? Simply competitive?

It definitely shows extras, especially since you have pass available for a hand with nothing convenient to bid.

I assume they are making even if there is a lead that beats it. Since it's BAM I will go for it.
