If your call was 2NT, I almost did. But I like 3 better if this hand qualifies. Is it slightly invitational or LR+? I am adamantly opposed to 3 as being an underbid, but it may work out if Richard Fleet is your partner :)

Steve, you could have had another ace and it still might have been cold.

I agree with the 55 requirement for a double but what do you consider a suitable hand for partner to reopen if you pass? If he were 55 he would have used Michaels. What would you do if he doubled? It seems like you are leaving too much for partner to do.

I passed 1 and I have a big hand, in context.

4NT would definitely be minors, 4 would just be a big hand asking for a 4 card spade suit.

I don't understand. I have an opening hand so why shouldn't I open?

Oops, I didn't realize I was in 4th seat,I pass. Poster should have stated “3 PASSES TO YOU IN 4TH SEAT!!!”

5, partner may have a 5 card heart suit with a hand that was not good enough to bid 2.

I would never overcall 2 with that red vs white opposite a passed partner. I am playing partner for a 6 bagger and raising to 3, for the same reason.

Does that mean that you recommend passing? Sounds like resulting to me.

I could have a lot worse hand on this auction so it's either Last Train or 5. As Dave F. said below, the 5 level should be ok.

Richard, the only problem I see there is that partner will downgrade any hand with 3 small diamonds.

Lynn, I agree unless he's from PA.

2 is a gross underbid but dbl risks a penalty pass and 3 makes it difficult to find spades and is also an underbid. Since 2 is the least likely to get passed out, I will try it and hope for the best.

I play that as a trump ask and I have good trumps in context.

2NT as long as we play puppet. 1 is likely to get NT played from the wrong side.
