I don't understand the Roth-Stone reference, it does not apply to this auction. One spade is forcing as long as you had your 1 bid, which you did. A weak 2 response is a possibility but probably shouldn't have an ace.

5 should make more often than 4. 4 sounds like slam interest so that's my bid.

I'll take my chances on no losers and ask for control with 5. If partner bids 5 I will bid 7C for a choice.

Might be easier to take 9 tricks in NT than 10 in s

Since when is a hand with 4 tricks for partner a preemptive raise? That hand is a limit raise and might make a game opposite a minimum opener.

Didn't see what we were playing but I wouldn't have that problem. Anyone who says that this hand is easier to describe by opening 1 just isn't paying attention.

Since I have no idea what 5 is in this context (trumps?) I'll do what my wife does in these situations, pass.

I think, given the auction thus far, that 3 would be forcing. Maybe partner can now bid 3.

I chose pass but reluctantly. I think 2NT will win the postmortem.

I would have been surprised if this hadn't been 100% but I don't understand the abstentions

Can what? If opener passes, like he will with most hands with 3 s, you don't get another chance.

It's hard to believe the majority vote is 1. Lead directing?

Stopping on a dime in 2NT makes no sense. Is partner really going to move with xxx Kxx Qxx xxxx? If I'm going down I want it to be in game.
