There is that argument but if you are playing leaping michaels then 3 asks for a stopper. I suppose you could play 3 for the majors and use 4 as asking for a stop…

Maybe to keep you from bidding 5, showing defense but not a lot of offense.

I support it. 3 is asking for a diamond stop, that's why leaping michaels was invented. 4 would be majors. You can't have everything.

Yes. 3, having already bid 2NT with Kxx I am not going to bid 3NT now which IMO would imply better hearts.

The hand is not good enough to GF and the hearts aren't good enough for 3 so that leaves 1NT.

Awfully close to 4 with the 5th spade.

Might be easier to come to 9 tricks in NT.

I thought 2 was just a LR+ in diamonds, saying nothing about stops.

Since I don't have a clue how many we can make I'm always bidding 4.

I'm not sure about now but when I started playing, a 2 response to 2 was VERY often a psych and thus it was normal to double to expose the psych. Of course, at that time the new suit was always forcing.

I see your point but double might land you in a 43 at the 3 level. It's not all that great a hand and partner has another chance to act.

“I like 4♣ instead of 4♥ to really express my club suit here.” I don't think 4 would show this hand either, it would probably show longer or stronger clubs and shorter hearts.

Pass, this might be the hand where we have 3 7-card fits. If not, maybe partner can take another or maybe it's their hand anyway. 2 is too inflexible and we have the wrong shape for a double.

Then what would 5 be?

Not sure about partner's intentions but 4 can hardly be wrong.
