Paul, I have always used it by opener to plan a bidding strategy, whether to open, jump rebid, jump shift rebid, how high to preempt, etc. I have never really used it for responding with a fit, preferring to count cover cards assuming opener's LTC to be a maximum of 7 for 1M. Maybe I wasn't paying very close attention when reading the articles.

I don't see why I should prefer playing 3 to 2.

I knew the popular bid would be 2 but I think it's too good for that.

Yes, I would rebid 2 showing a limit raise+ in spades.

I definitely have that agreement for the auction 1m - 1 - dbl - p - 1 and see no reason why it shouldn't apply to this auction as well.

So you are saying that partner will never pass your double with 4 spades? I would think the responsive double would tend to deny 4 spades. Pretty soon you might start doubling with any hand, unwilling to make a decision yourself.

I would never rebid 2NT with that hand, 3 looks normal. I have no reason to want to play NT, especially from my hand.

“BTW It is definitely standard for 2♥ in this sequence to be forcing” Anant, how would you bid x AQxxxx xxx KJx after 1 dbl if 2 <10 hcp?

But it's so politically correct.

I understand that but can't see any reason why it is unsuitable.

“I don't know, but minus 1010.” Maybe your teammates were too easy on the opps.

I don't think dbl necessarily promises 4 hearts but 4 should show at least 5.

If this hand is not good enough for a 2 opener then you may as well play 2 as weak.

Are you playing with a bot?
“Partner, do you think 3NT is the right spot?”
“Yes.”
“In that case I'm bidding 4.”
