I play that 2 followed by a jump to 4 shows this strength hand with club shortness. For me, this is a little too good for 4, all suits controlled and a source of tricks. Are the 4 bidders planning on taking another bid over 4?

Partner will not love you if you bid 7 off the club ace.

Partner is not expecting me to pass and we have at least half the deck. They are on a 43 at best. This could be a number.

No sense in telling them about our heart fit when we can't profitably save.

I think Keller should be barred by all Bridge organizations. Why take away one of the most pleasurable aspects of the game? And as for the opponents, why should I want to make life easier for them?

I've had success with WJS at the 2 level as the only way to describe hands like QJxxxx and out. That way reserving bidding a suit at the one level and then rebidding it shows some values.

Dave, you obviously started later than I and many others.

I find that knowing immediately whether partner has either 4-card or 3-card or <3-card support is helpful both in the bidding and on defense.

I'm prepared to pass 3NT or bid 4 if available. Maybe an immediate 4 would work out better but that eliminates 3NT as a possible spot. I don't think partner can pass 4 after I have bid 3 so I will have to live with that.

I'm for 5 because my wife accuses me of always burying my head in the sand (which I believe is an appropriate description of any bid other than 5)

Dbl doesn't seem right with undisclosed 5 card support. 3 is out since I would make that bid without the AQ of spades.

A little too good for 4, but not much. It doesn't take too much for slam to be cold.

I would never open that hand, now I have to bid 2 on a bad 3 bagger.
