Let's see. Oh yeah, I have an 8 bagger with 7 playing tricks. No sense in bidding this now when I can either defend 3 or maybe decide whether to bid at the 5 level. That's the ticket!

Easier to show this hand later.

5 trump ask since 5 would deny a club control.

Why? Partner is certainly not going to take a call since he probably has diamonds. I don't bid on nothing directly vs preempts but this doesn't qualify as nothing.

Long hearts, diamond void, I don't see how pass could possibly be right. The passers can't seriously want to defend 3.

I guess all of the 4NT bidders played this as a 2 suiter. I wasn't sure that it wouldn't be to play so I bid 5.

This is giving me a migraine, I want to play 5m, but from my side.

Do you mean 4 is sort of like S.A. Texas? That's interesting, I've never heard of it in this situation but I like it. I've missed out on a lot in the last 20 years.

We agree on the pass, it's just that I am not depending on partner to balance and I'm not sure I want him to unless he has a good suit. I don't like 4-3's at the 3 level doubled. There are hands where it is best to let the opponents play in their fit at the 2 level, even at matchpoints. LOTT says that there are probably 15 tricks available, that means that letting them play is always right at this vulnerability. Anyway, there will be lots of pairs getting to play 2 on this hand.

Partner has a good 55+ hand, probably void in clubs, otherwise he would have given me a shot at 3. 3NT might go down when 6M is cold.

Why should partner play you for solid clubs when you bid 3? Especially when you could have bid 3.

It would be nice to have a bid to show minors but unfortunately 3NT would be to play.

Whether you like the 3 call or not, pulling to 4 is automatic in my view. I personally would bid 3, why not?

5 loser hand so I bid 2. Trade the Q for the J and I would rebid 2.
