I would be interested in seeing the pros and cons to opening 1NT on this hand. I personally think the cons outweigh the pros by a long shot.

But I would have overcalled vs dbl.

Stayman followed by 2 over 2 would be weak 54 for me. Do you just transfer with that hand?

I play that 4 has to be a jump in order for Texas to be on for either major, in other words thru 3 overcall.

Deleted to avoid embarrassment.

Marshall, that makes some sense except some might take 5NT as giving a choice between 6 or 7.

No special reason other than relative suit qualities. We weren't playing nebulous 2.

I think dbl followed by cuebid is a CIA/FBI bid, neither confirms nor denies support for partner's suit.

Not perfect but I prefer 2NT to pass. Partner will hardly be able to balance and this could be a 6 IMP swing.

Oh, is that what that meant? I thought about giving Marshall Lewis a call to explain it. :)

Oh come on, everyone knows Lloyds will underwrite anything for the right price.

4 stresses the support but not the overall suitability for slam.

I normally open 1 with this pattern but this is an exception.

How is 3NT practical when it denies a stopper?

LOTT says if we can make 9 tricks, they can make 6, but that's giving them only an 8 card fit and us 3 7's. The flip side is they have a 9-card and we have an 8 in which case if we can make 9 then they can make 8 but of course we have to find our fit. In the long run I think it will pay to pass.

I think some people play 3 as a mini-splinter. Also I have seen it played as a minimum 65 with good suits.

I never considered 4, possibly because I knew subconsciously that it was an overbid.

Why didn't I respond 1?

Does that mean you sort of wanted to but didn't?

Looks like a hand that might play better in spades, depending on the relative qualities of partner's major suits.
