I started to answer key cards 5 but I wasn't sure how to treat a 5NT follow up by partner. I don't know why I shouldn't abstain when I disagree with the previous bid as I see it done on a regular basis by other responders.

I would have bid 3 GF to allow for an RKC bid later. Partner can bid 3S to ask for a stopper if he is not interested in slam or as a cuebid if he is.

3NT only because they will bid it at the other table.

I'm not so sure it's a penalty pass but since partner is almost sure to hold a bad 3334 I will pass and pray.

My fear is that partner may get us to the wrong spot, either too low or too high. I am not too worried that 3D will get penalized.

I guess the 3 bidders didn't understand the comments. I had to read them about 4 times.

I would have bid 3 over 2

Partner will quit competing if you raise on this.

I have a sneaking suspicion that 5 is right but not enough to bid it.

That's really not similar at all. In one case partner has opened the bidding and in the other he has not.

Why didn't the 5 bidders bid 4 previously? That's giving their partner a choice of either defending 4 or playing 5.

I'll take the sure 8+ card club fit over the probable 7 but maybe 8 card spade fit.

The first thing I would do is check the backs of my cards.

Henry, my understanding of last train is that 4 here would show a control with slam interest and 4 shows slam interest, denies a control and is ambiguous about a control. Even I can understand this logic.
