The longer I look at this hand, the better it looks. I am changing my call from pass to 1.

Why is a heart lead so much better than a spade lead?
And also I disagree with “Most of the time we will still be able to find spades if that is where we belong”. Especially if the opponents don't roll over and play dead. I think that, as usual, your first instinct was correct. Study long, study wrong.

No, that is not your fault. As I'm sure you know, not every bad result is necessarily due to someone's fault. Each player makes what he considers the right call and the chips fall.

I assume you mean you would have passed. Or 1NT? Of those two choices I prefer pass.

I didn't notice that, you are 100% correct.

Roll the dice between 3 and 3. Whichever you do at “bots” will be wrong.

I think standard for 1NT here is 8-10 but that may not be best.

2NT, partner can now show a 3 card heart suit if accepting. Good hand for Gazzilli.

I don't consider this a bidding problem.

5, pass says you're too wimpy to make a decision. If you think they might make 5 (which I do) then 5 seems clear, and it might make for a 2-way game swing.

I would have responded 2 inverted initially, now there is no way to set clubs as trump to try for slam other than an immediate rkc. I would like further description from partner before key card ask.

If you are playing CM dbl neg, why not use it? I will bid 4 next. I would like to have better spades for an immediate 4.

3, we probably have an extra trick, possibly more, in hearts if partner has 5.
