And maybe partner will transfer to hearts in which case I will superaccept.

If partner couldn't bid over 2 then we probably don't have a game and if we can make 3 partner will bid 4. I think it is right to try for a plus by passing.

I'm not necessarily looking for a spade lead and don't see any other possible reason for bidding here with so little offense.

I don't foresee buying it for 2 but opposite one of your mandatory one level overcalls, 3 could go for more than the value of their game or slam.

In Kentucky we don't think but occasionally we do study on something.

Maybe, but I don't have a spade stop and that is the only suit bid so far that shows 4+ cards. I also play “sandwich NT”, which I realize has fallen out of favor but I am an old school gadget person. Natural 1NT overcalls in live auctions are too scary for me.

:)
(a) I didn't say it wasn't better, just not MUCH better.
(b) How about 1 1 1NT P P? Still going to reopen? We may very well be cold for 2 while they make 1NT.
© I love commercial jingles, especially by Big Pharma when accompanied by dancing idiots.

2NT, I'll do almost anything to keep them from playing 2M at MP's, especially NV. There's a good likelihood that we have a minor suit fit, and if partner has 6 hearts there's no law against him bidding them. Pass is just too timid.

Oh, sorry RR, I didn't see your comment until after posting mine. Good comment! :)

What's wrong with 3 by responder over opener's rebid of 3? I think it's about 95% responder's fault.

2 has the best chance of landing on our feet. It avoids the risk of playing 1 (or 5!) when 6 is cold. I will try to invent a follow-up later if needed.

I guess it is played as preemptive opposite PH double. But anyway, I pass now.

We might buy it in a heart partscore which would be fine with me.

3, should be splinter by PH. If not then 2, much too good for 3.

I have a heart stack, 4 spades and a good hand. Isn't that what a double here shows?

I have good defense on this auction, partner doesn't have 4 hearts or 5 diamonds but he might have 5 clubs so I can understand a 3 call but still prefer pass.

OK, I will change my bid in tempo.

I would play that as “patterning out”, showing a good 5-1-4-3 or more likely a good 5-0-4-4 or 6-0-4-3. But that would be playing bridge, not bot. I am not a proponent of 4SF and artificial by opener.
