I assume 3 would be fit-showing since 1 is 4+. Therefore, just 2.

If hearts were xx and clubs Kx I'd bid 3, but I hate bidding with a mediocre suit, no singleton or void, AND only 10 HCP outside their suit.

2, fit-showing. (By the way, this is why I prefer 1 be forcing one-round, so that 2 can be fit-showing.)

I can't imagine why I would want to sign off in 3. Surely if I'm not going to game I should sign off in 3.

45% isn't that much different than 50%, certainly not different enough to accept light if partner is already inviting light.

It was the point of your simulations, which aren't necessarily applicable here.

Moreover, if partner is inviting light, you don't necessarily want to accept light also.

This isn't an invite or blast situation. The invite has already been issued.

I wish this were favorable vul, when pass would be easy. Here I can either pass, or I can double and then bid diamonds. I am afraid of all-pass if I bid diamonds immediately.

Why do you say that about IMPs non-vul?

That would be fine if 1 included all weak NT hands. It seems like masterminding though to conceal primary support for a natural suit in a competitive auction.

I'll settle for 2 here, but 2 at IMPs.

If you want to give partner another chance to bid, 5 and 5 are both available.

If the clubs were xxx I might double since I wouldn't expect to have a game opposite three hearts. But this hand is strong enough to justify looking for the 5-3 heart fit. (Also, with a king less it would be a serious over bid to over call and then double 2, but for this hand it's ok.)

If it's a partscore deal and both sides have found their trump suit, then doubling suggests defending. Probably not something you want to do with an undisclosed double-fit.

“Switch” works nicely in uncontested auctions, where some suits (unbid majors) are more important than others (unbid minors). In competition, the unbid suits are pretty much of equal importance, so transfers make more sense.

If you wish to talk like that you have three opponents whatever you bid.

I'm abstaining in protest of the x's, but at the table I would lead a spade to the K and then run the hearts. In addition to useful information on the run of the hearts, I'd like to get honest signals in spades.

If this is a b-i-t problem, Mr. Lewis is leading the witness.
