No, the 1H bidder can't hold that distribution, he would have opened 1D (one-suiter in ONE of the minors, or 4+ diamonds and a 5+ major)

A balanced invitational hand with fewer than 5 clubs would go through a forcing NT. That's the one modification my pd and I have made–Rexford has 1NT as semi-forcing so opener can open the balanced 11 counts with a 4CM. We just pass those hands so we can afford to play 1NT as forcing. Makes life easier.

To those who are abstaining, can you mention why?

But that's legal. The agreement you describe is clearly illegal, but you're doing it anyway.

And it should be changed. But you and your partner know it is the rule for now, and you violate it anyway. You should have been penalized straightaway.

It may be a horrible rule, but you CLEARLY have an agreement that is illegal under current rules. If you don't like that, change the rules, but you certainly got the correct ruling from the director.

Yes, I have some suggestions. Our game has to progress, or die.

(1) Multi–at LEAST mini-Multi–to the GCC, or whatever its equivalent may be in the new scheme.

(2) Kaplan Inversion to the GCC.

(3) Game-forcing or better relay systems should be GCC-legal.

I'd have more, but I'm typing this having taken a 10mg oxycodone 30 minutes ago :).

Is this supposed to be progress and moving the game forward? Sure doesn't seem it.

No Multi unless the segments are 6 or more boards? God forbid the ACBL should move into the 21st century…

Totally, absolutely unacceptable–and the TD that let you do this sorely needs a refresher course.

The ACBL can't even afford a 21st Century printer for the Nationals? :(

Another question–can the 1C opener hold three spades on this auction?

Maybe you find it funny. I can tell you from personal experience that I and many others on Long Island didn't.

When we dealt with Sandy here in 2012, the Red Cross had multiple and varied aid facilities in the five boroughs of NYC. They did not have ONE on Long Island. NOT ONE.

I urge people NOT to donate to the Red Cross and instead to donate to other relief agencies that distribute aid fairly.

The part about non-natural 1NT bids needing to be specifically allowed isn't quite true…1NT can be used as a strong forcing opening under the GCC (a la Romex, for example).
