Jeff, what Michael used to do, and what Aaron is doing may generate business, but it's not duplicate bridge to not play by the Laws, and for the beginners in his games–and I've seen this myself–when they move out into the bigger world they have many problems because they don't understand why every game isn't run the same way.

If she objected I'd tell HER to sleep on the couch :).

I don't think it would decrease turnout at all. Personally, if there was a 6K or even a 10K Soloway, I'd be all over it.

I'm still very tempted, but someone made the very good point that

(1) By playing in the Soloway we'd miss out on the 10K Swiss or the LM Pairs, and (2) There's a very small chance we'd make the KO and get to play a full day against a good team. If I want to play two days of Swiss against the best there's always the NABC+ Swiss later in the tournament.

If you think possible taking advantage of UI is a “trivial matter”, I pray I never have to play at a game you're directing.

Never mind, I should learn to read first. :)

And you NEVER know. In Vegas, my partner and I couldn't get out of the qualifying in the 6K LM Pairs. Then we lost in the round of 16 in the 6K Spingold to a team I know in my heart we were much better then.

If I could have talked my partner out of the Roth that night I would have. And would have missed a great day, even if we fell one bloody imp short of the semis.

I know it'll be a great performance for us if we make the KO. Winning a first-round KO match would be incredible. Don't care. Don't go to a NABC to not play against the best. The rewards are more than with the risk of leaving after the second day of the Swiss with our proverbial tails between our legs.

It's done in MANY other places. It should be done here.

“Psych bids shall be permitted”. Gracious of them to agree to follow the Laws of Duplicate Bridge. *sarcasm off*

In Las Vegas, we played a former world champion in BRACKET THREE of a bracketed knockout. Something is seriously wrong.

Thanks :). My pd, who also posted in this thread, and I are starting to read and learn. We'll probably roll it out for a midnight game in Vegas. Should be interesting :)

Last I checked the rules don't have a separate section for “friendly” club games.

Is passing allowed under the Open Chart? :)

The way this was given to me all weak rebids go through 2NT–you can't stop in 2S here. Not ideal perhaps, but those were the conditions I was told.

You are allowed to make a “grandstand catch” of a psych that is based on bridge logic.

You are NOT allowed to make a “grandstand catch” of a psych that is based solely on your knowledge of partner's proclivities, as you said, Steve Bloom. In this example, East should of course have bid 4H after West ostensibly offers a choice of games. But East knows partner frequently does this. This should NOT be allowed to stand.

A good example for you–Klinger's Power System was illegal short of the Superchart.
