I know of one, run by a couple of friends of mine on Long Island. Not a large club to begin with, and the majority of their players arent interested in online play. Those that are are playing in the online Alliance games.

I spoke to my wife's cousin, who is a bacteriologist at a large hospital in NY. He says there are no guarantees, but he thinks there's about a 75% chance we SHOULD be able to play in Montreal from a “will the government forbid large gatherings” perspective.

I have a feeling that the ACBL will not cancel this NABC unless they're told to by local authorities again.

I don't THINK from what I've read and seen that this is going to curve that badly for us.

The problem here is no one can be certain what's going to happen. We may all be in Montreal laughing about doom and gloom predictions. Then again, we may be canceling Tampa. No one knows for certain, and no one can.

What gives me some hope in this respect is that Dr. Fauci was asked the question a couple of days ago, about when we might be able to ease up on social distancing requirements and gather in larger groups, with proper precautions. His response was along the lines of “if everything goes ok and people do what we all need to do, maybe mid to late May”. If he mentioned a date…it's not much to be optimistic about, but it's better than nothing right now.

Thanks. I tried to search three times and it came up empty–must have misspelled it.

Important to remember is that this is not forever. Hopefully we're all playing in person again in May. No one knows right now.

I'm wondering how likely it is we lose the Montreal NABC also.

No, they canceled Columbus because the Governor of Ohio issued an order that made it impossible for them to hold it.

I'm shocked they haven't come out with an official announcement yet. I mean, this IS the ACBL, so any level of screwing it up is possible…but you would have thought they'd be ready for this???

Is it possible they're trying to think of some way to run the event at this point? I mean, I'm one of the folks who thinks the show should have gone on…but after the governor's order I'd love to know how they're going to do it.

The attendance at a Nationals is split over multiple and many rooms.

There is no reason for the event not to proceed for those who wish to attend.

I don't think the order he issues is going to cover the Nationals. As you said, they don't want 20K gathering to watch a basketball game.

While I disagree with your opinion that the tournament should be canceled, this action by the League is insanely greedy and inappropriate.

Read the article more thoroughly—this is not an official CDC opinion.

Ridiculous that Bergen wasn't elected.

As horrible as it sounds, and knowing the benefit is small, the League should still be thinking about banning players from China and Italy, for starters.

The people I grew up first playing against, in the late 1970s, most of them fun and pleasant…and almost all gone. :(
