How did I miss that? South bit 2 over 2. Diagram has been fixed.

As far as overtricks, it looks like N did open a light hand, so I imagine the field will be in a H partial after West opens a normal 15-17 NT. Thus overtricks won't come into play.

True, but South did make some noise at his second turn, so he has to have something, which leaves N with a light opener.

The way I remember the hand, you have 13 tops on any lead in NT.

This was my partner's hand and he chose 2NT. I held J10xxx AKQx AKx A.
It's the first time I've opened a 21-count and got a GF response. Hearts were 4-4 and K offside, so 7, 7, and 7NT all make but we bid and made 6.
Also the first time I saw a real hand where you can make 7 in a 4-1 fit.

At our table N came in with 3, but my partner said he was planning to pass my 2 bid with the E hand.

I used to get the “nice to see young people playing” quite often, but then it just stopped. I can't figure out why.

I think opener has given a clearer description of his hand than responder has. Further, I think it's more likely for opener to be short in after this auction, so making the double here takeout oriented but cooperative makes sense to me.

Perhaps pass should show a stopper and double deny one.

I agree with many of the comments that 4 should have been bid earlier, but now that I'm here, it is so rarely correct to bid when the opponents have settled in 4 of a minor, especially at these colors. They may double for +200 or +500, or they may bid 5 for +600 when leaving them in 4 would limit them to +150.

I see on this particular hand that 4 and 4 are the limits for each side. This not so common.

This is a really tough problem. I voted to double and hopefully partner can figure out that I have 5 hearts that aren't that strong because I didn't bid them directly. What else could double mean?

In the third hand where robot played 9 at T11, maybe it was a mis-click?

Years ago I had just gotten a new chess set that came with three black rooks. Soon after opening it for the first time, I dropped a piece into a bowl of liquid that you probably wouldn't want to retrieve it from (long story).

Anyway, it was a black rook that I had dropped.

Maybe next year's Conditions of Contest should dictate that if you lose in the round of 16, then your team has to provide a VuGraph operator for the next round.
(I hope nobody takes this seriously)

Ruff T1
Two rounds of . If they were 3-1, then work on . If 3-3, then you don't need finesse.
If are not 2-2 and are not 3-3, then you should probably cash 1 high before finessing.

This was the hand of the doubler:

K Q 7 6
A 7 2
7 4
J 10 9 4

I suppose he thought he could retreat to in some auctions.

If West started with a doubleton then does East really have a penalty double? I am playing 2 and hoping W started with stiff H or 9.

Opener held AQ1062 J108763 Q9 –

Responeder held K85 AK AK104 KQ74.

The field was in 6 making 7. I led 7 thinking we might set it. The A lead obviously holds it to 6 for all the matchpoints whereas any other lead earns a zero.
