I have no idea of the class of players in the Club. But may be in your times Jeff: 1NT was stronger and transfers also had to keep good standards?

Also during the last tricks it would be difficult for declarer because W does not have 4 Spades.

Dominant does not mean that with such card I always win. It only means that the move is better than any other under circumstances that are in concordance with the bidding.

I'm the only who won in dummy :-(.
If they are going to underlead QJ 2NT is not a good contract.
I'm going to play Diamonds 3 times. On the fourth Diamond I'll give a Heart from dummy and wait for a signal from RHO.

If 3C is a sort of mini splinter I would bid 3C.

I'm a primitive guy. I win in the hand and play H9.

For most of us this artificial meaning of 2N is standard, but not for everyone. Each artificial bid has its shortcomings.

I do not want to hear 3D from my pard on my double!

With non-staid pard the take-out double is for take-out!

I found an additional, interesting aspect of the deal connected with the option: 8 of Spades. Please write a comment if you want to see this aspect.

3C because I must show to my partner a possibility to sacrifice in 5C after their 4S.

Very good analysis! There is an additional, rational option: RHO can have 6 Spades. He thought that any other bid (than Pass) could lead to a dangerous contract.

Who: Steve or Barnet? ;-)

I'll try to enter to your and Barnet's analysis. That scheme of the reasoning is VERY ELEGANT and very difficult to reach!

One thing seems to be obvious and it is confirmed by voting : 6 is bad. It is possible that W can have singleton 7 or doubleton 7x. It would be definitely bad for declarer that such 7 takes a trick!
