From the first qualifier. A majority of people bid 4 when I presented this as a bidding poll. In actual play there were a handful of 4, 4 undoubled and 4 doubled. But a lot of 5.

At our table, it went p-(p)-1-(1)-1-(4). I passed, afraid that 4 could be going for a number. 4 goes for -500 given the lie of cards, but if trumps were 2-2 and were 3-1, it's -800. In 4 declarer ruffed 2 and discovered that I had a stiff . After that he simply played s from the top, making 5. The contract being 4 he was not under as much pressure as those in 5. I figured this would be slightly below average as some people might buy the hand in 4. But -650 was worth only 15% ! Several declarers playing in 5 managed to make only 10 tricks. Curious how.
