The 2 strong opening is annoying

When you are waiting for a bus or taxi you get nothing then several arrive at once. 2 openings seem a bit like this and you muddle through. The following hand was the first and I was left groping for a bid.

After a 2 opening do you bid 2 OR 2nt as responder?  I choose 2 mainly because I like quacky hands for 2NT. Now you see what happened I got 3 from partner and what now? I wanted to bid 3 but bad suit and maybe partner would think I had five--also maybe that is the bucket bid with nothing to say? Disliking all alternatives I tried 4NT hoping he would regard this as natural--I am sure Richard Fleet will sympathise. Partner bid something and I concluded the auction with 6.  Not very convincing but it seemed to work.

Having decided that by not showing a positive early  I shot myself in the foot and this one arrived next hand.

I decided that after my partner's 2 opening to bid 3 mainly because after 2 2NT this becomes an awkward hand to bid. After 3 my partner bid 4 then 4 from me--RKCB from partner I choose 5 but maybe that's wrong. Partner bid 7 for a pick up. I think 7 was a guess but maybe 5Nt asking for extras.  I am not sure if you can find a way to bid seven with any certainty.

I have developed a view after a 2 opening that responder cannot use blackwood,  I do not think there is an objective method that can show what is the best method after a 2 opening. I feel strongly a second negative is vital. More contentiously I have often wondered if a strong 2 is worth bothering with especially at match points.  Maybe some of the folks on this forum have useful insights into the 2 opening.
