You open 1 holding AQJ986 J109 K5 A4 and partner bids 1NT semi-forcing. Because you vulnerable at teams you choose 3S over 2S and partner bids 4S and you get a club lead and dummy has ;

It looks pretty automatic to discard a club on a diamond but experience shows when the play is automatic and something is niggling at you, then look again You are going to take the spade finesse although I suppose Ace will work when there is a stiff king but usually the opp will take second round and they may be able to find three rounds of hearts. What about a first round trump finesse? This will work if the king is on side even with four. If you chuck the club loser and the third diamond is ruffed you are finished. That means an initial spade finesse is best. This gains a game swing when the third diamond was ruffed next door. I admit my analysis maybe wrong but it feels right. RHO said it seemed a strange line.
