While I was playing in the Santa Clara regional, I may have done something I wasn't supposed to do. There were also some things spoken to me that were unkind, to say the least.
(I was sitting East)
For those who don't want to click through the play, the important thing to know is that declarer ends up not taking the SQ finesse as we had set up our hearts and she was out of trumps so she decided to just cash the SA for down one instead of taking the finesse and risking down two.
After the hand was over, I asked the declarer, "Would you like to know how you can know to take the spade finesse?"
She vehemently retorted, "No. No, I would not like to know what I miss. And certainly not from somebody like YOU." The gist of her response was about her 6000 master points and that she was a superior bridge player, therefore she would not like to talk with me.
I would like to know your opinions on the appropriateness of both my question and the lady's response.
DISCLAIMER: I personally am not troubled by the lady's response. On the contrary, the absurdity of her comment about her "6000 master points" gave me and my partner a good laugh for the rest of the tournament. However, I definitely can see that it is possible some people would have been negatively affected by that response.
