Introduction

Here are 3 fun hands I picked up consecutively in a recent duplicate. Please let me know in the comments what you think the best lines are, as well as criticising my crazy bids, of which there are many.

Your partner is not one of your regular masochists. However, they are almost certainly one of the best cardplayers in the room. Thus in order to maximise your chances of winning, you make sure they are dummy on all 3 hands.

This will be the crunch round. You are up against a LHO who is of international standard and has several big scores under his belt. Whilst your RHO doesn't have the star-studded resume of their partner, they are very capable in their own right. You consult their CC and find out they are playing the same boring stuff as you. To be precise: 5card majors, Strong NT, Short . Leads and Signals are 2nd/4th, Reverse Attitude, Reverse Count.

Let's dive into the hands!

If I try to justify every junior-esque bid I make, this article will run for 10 pages longer than it already is. Lets just say 1NT was "off-centre". We get lucky when our LHO slips up with the . Everyone does make mistakes from time to time.

Can you fully punish your LHO with the following play?

What do you think par is for the hand?

Let's assume you got the previous hand right, scored an easy top and are now nicely warmed up.

We aren't 100% certain what exact range our 2 bid was. How do you proceed?

Hand 2 of 3: Cannot get a guess right to save my life (continued)

I chose 4. I don't think 3NT is really in the picture and it nicely describes my hand in 1 bid (As did 2 for that matter).

How should you play the spades and why?

We are rolling and the opps are rattled! In these spots, it pays to move on quickly before they settle down. So without further ado:

Yes the opening bid, was a bit too much without agreement. But we are trying to put the pressure on!!! Anyway, your partner seems to have judged reasonably well to eschew 3NT. They lead A and another .

Can you rake in all of the MP on this hand, leaving your opponents demoralised and ready to give up on life?

You win the K. Since you lack trump control you go after first (See the play above). LHO upon winning the Q, goes into the tank, eventually settling on the J (RHO will follow with the 6).

How do you play?

Concluding remarks

Did you crush the duplicate and win the prize of....well nothing

I hope you enjoyed these hands and don't forget to post your answers/views in the comments. I will post the actual hands and what actually happened sometime next week.
