Sequence of events:

North alerted the 3S bid

After North's 4C bid, East inquired as to the alert: North explained South's bid as Minor Suit Stayman

East Passed

South simply left the table with cards in hand and spotted two directors chatting some 20 yards away

South explained the situation; after some discussion, South inquired as to what might he/she bid and was advised  free to do whatever wanted

South returned to the table and bid 6H

All passed

Result -200; At the other table, the contract was 4S, +620.

(North initially internalized that he/she had opened 2NT rather than 1NT; that become clear at the table after South left the table)

Questions:

(1) Does North have any reason not to leave the table or ask the director for options?

(2) If North had done so, what might/should the director advise?

(3) If advised do whatever wanted with a result of +1430 --

What adjustment (if any) might/should be made in the scores?
